I have a V-188 from T-Mobile. I got the phone unlocked, and took it to
England with me, using a prepaid SIM from O2 (formerly BT Cellnet).

I noted that when I had the phone set to auto-update the date and time, it
would set itself to New York time (GMT-5) even though I was in England! I
had to change the phone to manual time set to get the correct local time.

Any ideas as to why the phone behaved this way, and is there any way to
change it for future overseas trips I might take?

    Thanks.

    John - If that's a question, the answer is "I don't know... I couldn't find
a time zone setting." Do you know if such a setting exists?

    Re: V188 Time Auto-Update Question

I called Motorola to ask them about this. The CSR told me that it wasn't a
problem with the phone (I never said it was... I was just asking a question
about why the phone acts the way it does, and if there is a way to change
it.) She then said (a) putting in a different SIM causes the phone to be
configured to the settings of the new network; and (b) since the phone was
supplied by T-Mobile, it is set to their settings for the US. C'mon
Motorola.... it can't be both ways.

Here is what I believe to be the TRUE story... the V188 may be able to
operate on all 4 major world GSM frequency bands, but somehow it is a US,
T-Mobile phone at heart, making it only PARTIALLY the world phone it is
    advertised to be.

Shoppers for a true world phone, beware.

No - The autoupdate from the GSM clock is a carrier dependant feature and
the UK carriers don't usually support it, but US carriers do.
Go to Main Menu / Settings / Initial Setup / Time and Date.
On a USA flex for a Motorola phone you will see AutoUpdate by default.
Change this to OFF to manually set the time.
On a UK phone you will see the time and date for manual updates and no
    Autoupdate option.
