Ok I went ahead and bought one from T-mobile. Got a great deal and
should be getting it this week. I've read mixed reviews on it and would
like to hear actual feedback from people that own one and have for a
while.
Let me know the pro's and con's from your own experience. I dont use
cell phones for anything but calls, and plan on an occasional photo and
lots of text/email messages. Should this be a good phone for me?
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
If you like the look and feel you'll be very pleased. It has excellent
transmit & receive capability providing a better signal in marginal
areas. There are a lot of mods you can do if you want (see
www.motomodders.net).
If you want an extended time battery I have them so let me know if you
want one. They're $24.95 for 1900mAh capacity compared to the battery
you have which is 710mAh. I also have 2 of the 1700mAh ones left on ebay
(see item #5821025203).

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
Thanks for the info Bruce. I checked out the site for modding, way to
much for me. Have you modded your Razr at all? If so, what have you
done?

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
I bought mine almost a year ago as an unlocked Cingular phone that I use
on TMobile. My first mod was to install the TMobile Flex to make it an
unlocked TMo branded phone and then I made some SEEMS changes to add
long video recording, multi-character phonebook search and unhide the
web sessions menu.

I've carried one for around a month (I think... Honestly it might be
longer, I'm losing track of time) -- I love it.
Signal reception is amazing -- It's the only phone I've seen so far that
works in my basement, GSM or other, including other 850MHz/1900MHz
capable phones on the same network.
Complaints:
The screen sometimes has a high pitched "ringing" sound. I'm fairly
sensitive to this frequency range though (I hear Palms, I can pretty
much point out which CRT monitor was left on in a computer lab of 30 of
them).
The battery life in practical use is FAR from the manufacturer's
specifications. Okay, I wasn't expecting to get over a week, but I was
hoping for more then 24 hours with the phone in it's default
configuration in an area with good signal reception. Third party
batteries seem to have helped.
You can't USB charge without installing drivers.

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
Thanks for the information Lisa. I've heard alot of complaints about
the "ringing" sound. Does it happen all the time or rarely? I'm glad
that it has such good reception because right now on the Samsung I'm
switching from, it has terrible reception from my room in my house.
Bruce I going to purchase the extended life battery from your auction,
I dont want to have to deal with poor battery life.
You mentioned that you added long video recording, does that mean that
you added memory?

Hmm, not my experience... I'm seeing 3-4 days without recharging - no
problem. How much of your Talk time are you using?
I've heard that Bluetooth is a drain, and that it's a Good Idea to keep
it off when it's not in use. YMMV, of course.
(I'm very happy with mine, except that as an unlocked Cingular phone,
there are lots of issues with using it on T-Mobile ... and I can't send
SMS at the moment, but otherwise, hey, it's great).

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
Ok, here's a link to the auction: http://tinyurl.com/99ac9
The newer flashes make better use of existing memory and actually
increase the amount available. But the more important thing is the flash
that allows it and the SEEM edits to turn it on. All the info on doing
it is at www.motomodders.net. Holler for help!

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
Call TMo and they will download what you need to send SMS. Takes just a
few minutes. Works whether you have the Cingular branding or converted
to TMo branding. I converted just because I like the TMo specific menus.

For testing, none at all.

Yeah, I left it in the default configuration (which is bluetooth on) for
testing. With Bluetooth off, the display timeouts set to minimum, I can
go several days, but that's neither how I use my phone nor the default
configuration.
I use Bluetooth a fair amount, both for data and occasionally for a
headset (although I don't usually carry my headset when I'm out. I will
in the winter, since I'll have a jacket pocket)

I saw some weirdness when I was in the US using a T-Mobile prepaid SIM,
the phone was sitting on my desk for several hours, it suddenly started
going in and out of service constantly for an hour then stopped and
worked normally again.
The next day, same thing (different time of day, different location, but
the same problem)
I just assumed it was T-Mobile doing something to the network in the
area.

Re: Motorola Razr V3 - The truth
I don't think the standard battery is bad at all.
I've put my memory full of JAVA-apps, MP3's and more, but my battery lasts
at least a few days.
Even after 2 hours of calling the battery- indicator shows that the battery
is full.
You need to get used to Motorola's i-Tap system, but when the dictionary has
learned all words you use,
you'll write messages faster than ever before.
I also like the fact that you can 'modd' EVERYTHING in this phone.
The only con I have: only 7 Mb's of free memory!!
Not even expandable with a memory card!
Anyway, you want to be seen with this phone!
