Has anyone any idea why my phonebook has suddenly started displaying numbers
twice one with a little icon next to it?
Have I pressed something to do with sim card or something??!!

You must have duplicate entries for each of your listings; one in phone
memory and one on the SIM card. If these all appeared at once, then you
must have unknowingly done a mass copy of your entire phone book resulting
in the duplicates.

I see -so is it possible to HIDE one set of numbers or do I need to manually
delete each one?

Motorola firmware does not give you a way to selectively delete the set
you don't want. When I did this once, my solution was to remove the SIM
card and replace it temporarily with an expired SIM from the junk drawer,
and delete the internal phone book. Then when the active SIM is replaced,
the only phone numbers remaining are the ones on the SIM card.

yes go into the menu and setup and tell it to show the primary numbers.
