We have a family plan on Cingular with three v551's.
Yesterday, my phone appears to have lost signal throughout our town when
compared to the other phones. I have 0 to 1/2 bar while my wife and
daughter's phones have 4-5 bars. I can receive and dial but some calls
are immediately dropped or don't go through with a Call Failed message.
According to Cingular, they say there is no problem with local towers
and I believe them, using the other two phones as controls.
Is there anything I can with the phone to check it other than to swap
antennas (there was no change when I did that)?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Lost signal v551
Same thing happened to me a few days ago. I was in a store that is
not more than 1/2 mile from the tower. My daughter called, and I lost
the signal. She then called my wife who had a perfect signal (as you
would expect.) I thought it really strange at the time. The
difference here was that I had my V551 purchased from Cingular, and my
wife was using her Nokia purchased on the AT&T plan.

I cannot find the firmware version. Where is it located? The software
version is R47_G_08.17.0FR
I stopped in at Cingular and they said that I should exchange the phone,
as it is under warranty. If I do so, is there any way that I can easily
preserve the photos, mp3 ringtones, and the setup that I have? I have
mobile phone tools but I don't know that it allows saving anything other
than phone numbers. What I would like to do is to clone all of the menu
items and items in memory.
Thanks

Your "home" network was probably changed from "blue" to "orange" or vice
versa. Call Customer Care, ask for Tech Support, and check your home network.

Thanks. I have downloaded the files and have WinRar, but I am not clear
about how to use the files. Where do I go from here? It appears that
this is some firmware but I am unclear about how to load it onto the
phone. I have both Bluetooth and a cable...
Thanks
