Compared to my previous Samsung 427's address book, the v551's phonebook is
    primitive.

Is there any program that will let me store addresses and notes in my V551
like I could in my Samsung?

    Thanks,

    Trent

Yeah, I'm interested too -- I switched from Nokia to a V330 (main phone) and
a V188 (backup) and I miss Nokia's ability to store addresses, comments,
etc. in the phonebook. Although I do like the way the "categories" feature
    works on my Motos --

    Maybe I'm missing something.

If I have three phone numbers for someone (cell, home, work) it takes three
separate entries in my V551 phone book. And each of these can only display
    name and phone number.

    How are categories helping?

No addresses or notes, but you can set for "display primary number only",
which leaves you with one number showing in the directory. left-right or
View and up/down to see the other numbers.

I think he's referring to the fact that you can set the phone list to
display one name listing, scrolling through the phone numbers for that
entry using the right or left arrows. Which doesn't address your question.
AFAIK the only addresses you can add are for email -- no street addresses.
And no notes re: the entry. There may be a more robust third party
alternative, but I haven't really looked since the screen is so small &
    washes out in daylight.

Motorola got the message! The phonebook in the newly released v3i now
lets you add street and email addresses. Maybe Motox or someone can
take that and add it to a Flex/Flash for older models like the v551.

Different feature entirely, just something that happens to be useful.

Not familiar with the V551 as its for the USA, but make sure you are storing
your phone numbers to the phone memory and not the SIM, which may be the
default setting on your phone. Most Motorola phones give you Street, City ,
state, postal code fields to fill in now. When you add a new entry look at
the field that says "Store To:" - it should be "Phone" and not "SIM" to give
you the field to add an address.

Make sure you set your phone book to "view by primary contacts" - it really
should be the default setting for all phones now, but it hasn't filtered
    through yet.

Phonebook / Menu / Setup / View: Primary Contacts

Scroll up down to different contacts
Scroll left right to different numbers for that contact - older phones don't
give you any prompts to tell you that you can do this with the left right
    keys.

To add another number or email address to an existing contact edit the
contact and scroll to the bottom and select ....MORE.... and go from there.

The new Motorola phones have completely rewritten phonebook software ...
    Happy New Year!

The V551 must be about the only model that doesn't include all that,
then. ;-) And, until I end up with too many for the phone, all entries get
stored to the phone. Especially since some options for an entry (like
speed dialing) don't work from SIM.

It would eliminate the need to carry my pda, as well. :-)

I've never used a V551, but I think it's similar in menu design to the V180,
    188, 300, 330, 400, 600 etc. Here's how I use it: I have two teenagers, a
timeshare, a job, several close friends, home repair people, etc. Using the
Category feature, I assign all the numbers in the phonebook to it's
category: My teenagers -- all of Sara's friends into a category called
"Sara's Friends", all of Larry's into "Larry's Friends". All the numbers
that have to do with the timeshare into the "Timeshare" category. You get
the picture. Then when I'm at work, and I just want job-related numbers to
show on the screen when I choose Phonebook, all I do is choose the "Work"
category. If I'm looking for one of my kids, I switch to the appropriate
category ("Larry's Friends" or "Sara's Friends") and I don't have to look
through my entire phonebook for the right numbers.

How it works: Only numbers stored in the phone's memory can be categorized.
So you have to copy all the Sim card numbers to the phone. Once you've done
that, all you have to do is open the phone book, press the center-top "menu"
key, scroll down to "Categories" and select, and then you can
    choose/create/delete categories. It's very handy.
