    Hi

I took my Motorola V600 (T-Mobile) and unlocked it. It worked fine in
Canada with Rogers AT&T (with the exception of Internet access) but
when I brought it with me to Egypt, I could only receive calls with the
local providers' SIMs. If I try to dial out, I always get "Call Failed:
Not Subscribed". What could be the problem? Is it a problem with the
unlocking? Is there something I can do myself, or do I have to try and
    unlock it again.

The problem is I can't do any dialing, not even emergency or customer
    service... just receiving.

    Thanks
    Wael

The fact that you can get incoming calls and even the outgoing error
message means that the phonje is unlocked. Check with the local
provider. If it's a prepaid card it may be bogus or depleted. IF it's a
calling plan card it needs to be turned on when you set up a plan.

I checked with two local providers (one of them is Vodafone) and found
the same problem. In Canada I didn't have any problems.

Are you using a local Egytian card in Egypt or are you using a card from
    one country in another?

Does your T-Mobile SIM work? (You'll have to have T-Mo enable
international roaming if it is not already enabled.)

I am using a local Egyptian card (vodafone) at the present time and I
am able to receive only. I tried SIM cards from two different companies
    with the same result.

I never had a T-Mobile SIM. My brother bought it for me because it had
a good deal and it was never used in the US. It seemed to work fine in
Canada after unlocking it (only internet access was missing in Canada)

If you're using a local Egytian SIM and you're in Egypt, I would call
the provider and ask what's going on. If you can receive calls you
should be able to make them.

I forgot to mention that I tried a working SIM card of a friend in my
phone and it did the same thing, so I am 100% sure that the problem is
the phone not the provider. Anyway, I thought it was a known issue
because i read somewhere that T-Mobile phones don't fully unlock.

They do fully unlock - at least to the point where they can make and
receive calls. If the phone wasn't unlocked a non-TMo SIM wouldn't work
at all. That's not to say that there's not a problem with your phone but
it's not a locked phone problem. There could be a security lock that
only allows incoming but you should have the password for that.

Might be set to the wrong frequencies? North America and not Europe?
Try running the smart clip software called SmartMoto available from
http://www.smart-clip.com/smartmoto.php This is intended to work with the
Smart Clip hardware box for phone unlocking, but it will run without the
box so don't worry about that. The software has an option to see what
frequencies are enabled on your phone and possibly change them?

EXCELLENT point!! I forgot about that. On the v3 (and maybe others)
there is a menu option at Menu: Settings: Network: Network Setup to set
the band manually. The default is automatic but sometimes you need to
force it. I remember I had to do that in Europe last summer. I'm not
sure why you'd be able to still receive calls but it's worth a shot.

    Re: Motorola V600 problem

Too bad i forgot to bring my cable. I tried to set the frequencies
manually, but did not work 1900 and 900/1800. I'll check with the
software. May be i am able to borrow a cable to check it out. Thanks
    for the advice.
