I have installed this software on my computer using usb mini cable SKN6371B.
But it won't detect my Motorola Razr v3 phone. I think there is a usb cable
driver and/or usb modem file missing. Can anyone tell me where to find it
on the net so I can download it?

MPT v4.0 has all the drivers in the installation file and you have the
correct cable. You MUST install the software BEFORE plugging the phone
into the PC. If you plugged in the phone first you need to go to
Settings: Control Panel: System: Hardware: Device Manager and remove the
drivers for the phone under Modems. Then reboot and install MPT first.
When you run MPT plug it in. If it doesn't detect the phone unplug it
and plug it back in while it's trying to detect it.

It doesn't support the StarTAC. I don't recall the StarTAC ever having a
Data Cable. IIRC, there was no way to back up the phonebook unless it
was the GSM version with a SIM.

    1. Download a short utility from
    http://pellaeon.com/ChangeMasterID.zip.
    2. Open your current install of MPT and run Live Update to get or
    ensure you have 3.28.
    3. With 3.28 running, run the utility - you won't see anything happen
    but that's OK.
    4. Run Live Update again and you will be offered version 3.30. Install
    it and reboot.
    5. After the reboot a screen will pop up telling you to click finish to
    start MPT. Do that.
    6. When MPT starts Live Update will run and ask you if you'd like to
    update to 4.04. Accept it.
    7. MPT 4.04 will now load and install - it takes about 5 minutes.
Follow the prompts to finish and start the new version.

I have a data cable for the StarTAC 7868W. Got it in the Mobile Office kit
    from Verizon.

Verizon managed to do it when we had to swap wifey's phone due to a bad
charging connector. I never installed the Mobile Office, so don't know if
that would back up / restore phonebook.

Interesting. Was Mobile Office a TruSynch product? I had a 7868 CDMA
Startac first and then a 7700 TDMA one when I switched carriers but
always had to fat-finger in all the numbers when swapping bad phones
    (there were several).

I used to do phonebook backups on my StarTac 7868 all the time using
TrueSync. The cable goes from the phone to a serial port. (This was long
before USB was popular.) In fact, I still have the (active) phone,
cable, and software (along with current phones).

About a year ago VZW pulled the StarTac cables from their support
computers, so you can no longer get service for the 7868 from them.

You no longer need to zap anything to get 4.04. My plain vanilla copy of
MPT that I bought from Motorola did a LiveUpdate from 3.28 to 3.30 and
thence to 4.04 without any tweaking.

As I mentioned, I didn't install it. A look at the Quick Start guide (the
only instructions provided) suggests it was for data comm only, not for
    phonebook transfer.

    Hi Everybody
a stupid question. I am new to cell phone and just last week I got two of
them V551 and V186. If I just want to transfer pictures between the phones
and a PC, do I need the MPT that you guys talking about? I try the V186
with my normal USB cable, the PC see new hardware and can see it is a V186
but have not driver for it. Is there any way to download free USB driver
for them? The V551 does not take normal USB so I am using bluetooth.
    Please help and many thanks

MPT would be the best solution, although a free trial of Mobile Edit
    might get you by.
