So there is no way to change the phonebook application, or use another
application to create another address file, or upgrade the phone to do
    a better job at this?

You can get a Java address book application and use that or sell the old
razr and upgrade to a v3i.

Does anyone perhaps know where a Java Address book can be found?

There are RAZRs with R4513? software which support addresses like the V3i
do, but I don't know if the hardware is different. Somebody will soon be
brave and try flashing up an old V3 to see if it takes the new sw so one day
    this "might" be possible.
