What updates do I need for my phone. I have not done any moding to it.
Is there anything specific I need to look for?

Hard to say since we don't know how old your phone is, what, if any,
branding it has or what you want to mod. An unbranded phone bought last
week will have a lot more available than a two year old Cingular model.
Read up at www.motox.info and you'll learn what can be done and how to
    do it.

I have an unlocked unbranded v3 that is about 2 years old. What do I need
    for my phone? Thanks.

What would you like it to do? There are lots of modifications you can
    make. See www.motox.info.

What I meant was not modification just newer (and better) firmware. Is the
    newer firmware any better?

If yours is 2 years old you'll appreciate newer firmware. Again, read up
at Motox on them to see what's best for you. There are different
versions for branded and unbranded. You can get the files themselves at
    www.planetmotox.net.

My Razr was purchased April 2005, unbranded/unlocked and it came with
foreign language instructions only so I assume it is a european Razr.

I am using Cingular and would like to know which newer software I need to
install? What does the newer software offer etc? TIA!

I'd be hesitant to suggest anything specific. Look at what they have to
offer and see what you might like. The differences aren't all that
dramatic. I've had a v3i for 10 months now so I'm not up on the latest
    versions for the v3.

The top one on that page is for "orange" and it's newer than the 2nd one.
    Isn't orange Cingular?

Orange is a British company and does not offer service in the US.
Cingular is a US company. If you use Cingular you won't want the Orange
    software.

Thanks for the info. I am so used to Cingular being referred to as "blue"
    and "orange".

I think of Cingular as being just orange. In western NY we have an MVNO
    known as Blue Wireless.
