I use T-Mobile USA and own a Motorola U6 PEBL.
I love my PEBL, but there are a couple things wrong with it. Not bugs...
just bad design decisions on the part of the people who created the firmware.
My number one annoyance is the ringer: when I have my bluetooth headset on,
instead of using my chosen ringers, it uses the default ringer at the
loudest possible volume - incredibly obnoxious.
So, I emailed back and forth with Moto tech support and found out that there
is no way to change this. I then asked who I could talk to about correcting
this problem in a future firmware update. They replied as follows:

Why is it that when I connect my Motorola H500 headset to my PEBL,

Dear Steve Sobol,
Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support, we appreciate your
request. Thank you very much for your considerations and interest in
our products.
Once again, we apologize for this inconvenience and we appreciate you
taking the time to write to us about this and share your feedback. It
is through feedback like yours that we are able to identify and correct
issues.
If you would like to submit ideas you may have regarding the design of
our existing or future products, you may contact our New Ideas Group
at 1-847-576-5184.
We remain at your entire disposal for future questions you may need to ask.
=======================================
OK, cool! So a couple weeks later I dial the number. Well, that number
goes to a voicemail box. You have to leave your name and address and they
send you some documents to sign -- most likely non-disclosure agreements or
something similar, since they're the New Ideas group. Uhmmm... that's
overkill. I just want to request a change in an existing feature.
So I'm thinking, maybe I should call T-Mo. After all, the carriers dictate
how the firmware is set up, right?
Problem is: The group at T-Mo that would work with the manufacturers won't
be a customer-facing group, and I am sure they won't have a publically
advertised phone number. In general, I have been quite pleased with customer
service at T-Mo, but I'm not even going to bother calling them with this
question because I wouldn't expect any of the CSRs to know who I need to
talk to.
If anyone has suggestions about who to talk to at either company, I'd
love to hear them.
Thanks
Best,
Steve

Re: PEBL firmware
As far as I can tell, this is an issue with ALL Motorola phones.

If you search back to postings around te date of Motorola's first
bluetooth phone, you'll find the same complaints. No change because this
is a conscious design decision on the part of Motorola which, for whatever
reason, they refuse to reconsider.

Ahem. My V710 uses whatever ringer I specify whether I'm on bluetooth or
not.
Not that that helps SJS or anyone else, just a data point; *all* Moto
phones haven't done that.

OK, I'll qualify that to restrict it to GSM phones.
Could that be, perhaps, due to customizations requested by your CDMA
carrier?

Well, sure. I was thinking along those lines when I came up with "call
T-Mobile and lean on them to lean on Motorola to fix the problem."

AFAIK do all A2DP (BT high quality audio) capable Motos like V3x and K1
support playing ringtones through BT headsets. What I am not sure about
is if they are able to do that with non A2DP headsets. I guess the issue
has found some consideration within Motorola, even if it took a while.

I have the H500. Is that an A2DP headset?
Thanks all,
SJS

I had the chance to try with a KRZR K1 and a H500 today. This
combination does play mp3 ringtones, even though the H500 is a non A2DP
headset.

OK. So what does that mean in the context of my original post?

Re: PEBL firmware
I just received a pebl from t-mobile and am having the same 'switch to default' ring tone issue when turning off the phone and charging...super annoying. Was hoping for a simple fix, but I guess there are none. I'll just have to get used to it I suppose...
