    Hello,

I have an V3T Razr--I am very happy with the phone and I think that the MP3
player sounds good-however-not all mp3 's will play on it-there is no
pattern, for some it says "Play Failed"-some play fine-these are unprotected
MP3's, the bitrate does not seem to be a factor and I am transferring them
via a USB cable-also, I have tried different size SD cards and this does not
seem to be a factor, nor does length or style of the file name. Any
    suggestions?

    TIA,

    Ben III

How were they created? If you got them off the Internet, they may well
    have been encoded improperly.

Yes, the great majority came from the internet--please explain "encoded
    improperly"

    Thanks,

    >Yes, the great majority came from the internet--please explain "encoded
    >improperly"

Encoded improperly typically means an encoder was used that didn't
produce MP3 output fully compliant with the MP3 specification. This is
a not uncommon problem with illegitimate MP3 files on the Internet. The
MP3 decoder in your RAZR V3t may simply be less tolerant of encoding
errors than the MP3 decoder on your PC.

To test this, convert the MP3 audio file to WAV, and then re-encode with
a _good_ MP3 encoder. I think you'll find your problem will disappear.

p.s. Please don't switch posting styles (top vs bottom) in mid-thread
-- it makes the thread hard to follow. Thanks.

    John,,

Tried your suggestion--no go--I am using Nero Wave Editor--is this a "good"
encoder? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

It's decent, although I personally prefer LAME (latest version). What
encoder settings were you using? Try 128 Kbps first, then 192, and
finally 256. Also CBR versus ABR.

Again, please don't switch posting styles (top vs bottom) in mid-thread
    -- it's confusing. Thanks.

I found documentation on the MOTODEV (Motorola Developer) website
    <http://developer.motorola.com/products/handsets/>
for the V3xx that specified the multimedia formats supported by my
handset ("Technical Manual, Creating Media for the Motorola V3xx"), so
you may want to check there to see if similar documentation is available
for your handset. Registration required, but free.

    Thanks,

I found that recoding to a variable bit rate seems to solve the problem!
