You can either use a Motorola Headset with the mini-USB plug or buy a
Motorola Mini USB to phone plug adapter. DO NOT buy a non motorola
version as it won't work. You can buy the adapter for 8 bucks here:

Now you can plug whatever device you choose to interface to you car
    stereo.

Depends on you car stereo. Some now have jacks for direct input so all
you need is a cable. Otherwise, if you don't want to fool with any
wiring, a radio transmitter that plugs into the lighter outlet can
broadcast a fairly good stereo signal that your radio tunes on an unused
    portion of the FM band.

The car in which I will use it has an old but decent Sony stereo
so the unit you referred me to will work just fine, thank you
for the help, it is appreciated.

Once you get from the phone to a standard headphone jack, you could use the
FM transmitter, but I find them not to be very good. In some cars, they
are okay, some they don't work at all, and some are in between. if you are
in a major metropolitan area, or if you travel a lot, you will sometimes
have to change frequency to find an open spot, and might not find one.

I use a P.I.E adapter in my Honda that plugs into an empty plug on the back
of the radio that is intended for a CD changer. My MP3 appears to be
    "cd1-track1" of a changer.
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piehon98aux.html is the one I have. You
would have to shop for the right auxilary input adapter for your Sony.
    http://www.Crutchfield.com is another source.
