    Hi all
I've bough my self a Razr v3 as my old phone (SE T610) was on its last legs.

I'm slowly getting the hang of the phone.
However, I've been trying to connect it to the PC without success :-(

I tried to install the phone tools that came with the phone (V4) but it wont
install on my version of windows (I'm using win 98SE - its a long story why
I'm still using that, but that's for another day)

So, I get V 3.2 which installs but it wont recognise my phone. It sees it as
    a modem.
I did find a web page with tips but I cant find the damn thing now :-(

I know its user error probably......

    Any guru's out there?

    many thanks.

Not a guru, but a PhoneTools user... the v3 may be new enough to
require a version of PhoneTools that's simply not going to work on
    98SE.

They probably dropped win98 support prior to adding Razr support.

The other trick I had to do on my Krazr is to go intot he phone menu
under usb communication and tell it to make a data connection instead
of defaulting to connecting as an external storage device. The Krazr
has a slot for an external memory card. I'm not sure if that advice
is applicable to your phone, however.

Good luck. Perhaps others will have better answers.

    I still use W98SE and Phone Tools V4, (ProductVersion=4.0.4a 11-22-2005
    (051114006185) ), with a V3 and V3i and I have had no issues with
connections via USB cable. However, I prefer to connect to the phones via
Bluetooth and generally only transfer music. ringtones, pictures and this is
    the best way IMO.

I think from long memory that I had to install drivers from P2K Commander
before the cable was usable. Have a search for P2K cos I can't remember
where I downloaded it from. Think it was version 2.9 or 3.o that I
    installed

According to the manual on the CD its supposed to be win 98 compatible.
So I guess it *should* work. Actually getting it to do so is another matter
    :-)

I dont have anything like that on mine :-(

Thanks for the input, many thanks.

It wont even let me install version 4 (that came with the phone) as it says
it wont install with my version of windows.

    Cool, I have grabbed that now ( http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/commander/ )

    I'll have a play around.

Is there another app that will allow transfer of files i.e. ringtones,
photos etc - thats all I want to do really.
I recall when I first got my SE T610 I tried the bundled software but
couldn't get it to work, someone suggested floats mobile agent
which I tried and it was perfect, did just what I wanted.

    ah, anyway, I digress.

    Will try P2K, cheers

If you just want to do ringtones etc. then stuff MPT and get yourself a
Bluetooth adapter. It's easy to use and not overly expensive. Plus you can
use it with a variety of devices. Mine's a cheapo Chinese adapter that cost
me about £10 a year ago. It uses Widcomm drivers and works flawlessly. If
you do go the Bluetooth route, keep the adapter out of the computer until
the installation complains it can't find an adapter.

As to Tools V4 not installing, are you using Win 98 SE version 4.10.2222B?

Well I fiddled around with PK2 and I just get a dll error :-(
I still havent managed to connect the ruddy phone and pc.
    I'm loosing patience just now!

I've given up, I may look into a blue tooth dongle, will have a look around.

Just had a look and win98SE is ver A, not B.

Given the restrictions imposed by running win98SE, perhaps the Bluetooth
method would be best. Even though I have MPT running fine, I only use it
for phonebook backup. Everything else I just do with BT. You can find
USB Bluetooth dongles cheap on ebay. Just be sure to get one that comes
with the Widcomm/Broadcom drivers such as this one for under $21
    delivered:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/HIYATEK-BT-303U-...QQcmdZViewItem

This one says that it is compatible with Win98SE so it should solve your
problem painlessly. Install the Widcomm drivers that it comes with and
you'll then have a "My Bluetooth Places" application to connect tot he
phone and do file transfers including MP3s, pictures & ringtones.

Not knowing how you're fiddling with P2k, go into the drivers folder under
its installed folder, right click on p2k.inf and you should get an Install
option on the list. Select this and then shut down and restart the computer.
If you've done that already then my apologies.

My SE upgraded to 2222B with the MS Security CD. It used to be free from MS
and it cleared some bugs as well as security issues.

I thought I was the last holdout using Win98SE. Since Vista is the hot
puppy now, you can pick up a XP Home Edition or Upgrade for a song. (As
long as your pc meets the specs). XP fixed a lot of headaches I had
with USP instability and yes the Bluetooth drivers are that much more
    stable with XP.

As far as I know, P2K doesn't have a version that supports Bluetooth.
To use that software, it's more powerful than MPT in several ways, you
still need the mini-USP to standard USP cable.

My Bluetooth dongle and software is from Iogear. It was fairly
inexpensive. I think it has a Win98SE installation path with the
appropriate drivers for that version of the OS.

From what I hear Vista is a dogs dinner of an OS.

Anyways, I've installed my phone on a different pc that has xp on it.
Not as convenient with it not being mine but hey ho.

That also hasn't worked but I think thats because I rushed, I will try again
    when I get chance.

    cheers
