Randomly today this started. When I flip the razr v3 phone closed, the
display screen goes black and it doesn't light up after that. I can still
make and receive calls and the backlight for the buttons works fine. If I
take out the battery, put it back in a few seconds later and then hold down
the cancel button, the phone will come back on and my display screen will
stay on as long as I don't flip the phone closed. I've tried changing the
battery but that didn't work.
I would think it's the screen except that is will stay on as long as I do
not flip the phone closed. The only thing I haven't done is a master reset.

I don't think a master reset will do the trick. Sounds more like a
hardware problem with the phone. Unless you have the right tools and
are competent taking the phone apart, take it to your nearest phone
store. Have them check it out.

Sounds like a bad ribbon cable through the hinge. Common problem. Easy
to fix for one with the right tools and some experience. Local fix
should be available but if you're adventurous, you can buy parts and
tools at www.cnn.cn. They are in Hong Kong but they ship fast and they
are very reliable.

Probably something new verizon has crippled. Maybe an extra monthly
fee if you want to view your screen...
****... I shouldn't give them any new ideas on how to suck blood out
of there users... They come up with PLENTY on there own.
