My 2 year old black AT&T V3 RAZR has suddenly gotten sick. Here's the
symptoms. It goes dead for no reason, with good battery life. Sometimes it
shows a gray screen and will wink on after a few open & close case moves.
Almost as if it's going dead. Other times it's black & needs to be
restarted, which may or may not work for awhile. To get it working again I
need to take out the battery, and reboot it. That seems to work for awhile.
It may be fine for a couple hours. I got a new high cap battery for it, but
that didn't help either. The only thing I've done differently was to take
out the SIMM a few times while modding a different RAZR. Question is, do
you think it's a hardware issue, I just installed new firmware? The battery
life has also shrunk alot. Any thoughts on how to nail down the cause is
appreciated.Thanks!

Yeah, sounds like one I replaced a few months ago.

My vote is for a hardware issues that's not likely to improve.
Treat yourself to a new one. I've really enjoyed the Krazr K1 I
picked up from Wal Mart (for AT&T) for $79. Much better all around
than that V3 I had. Wal mart was pleasant to shop at since the rep
is not on commission and isn't pushing or adding without your consent
bull**** services to your account to collect the commission as always
seems to happen at the Cingular stores. Also it seems Wal Mart has
an untouchable deal on the Krazr K1 blue phone. They don't seem to be
even offered other places.
Caveat: if you need HSDPA ("3g") data speeds, like for laptop
tethering or anything, consider the v3xx instead, or I'm not sure if
the red Krazr has HSDPA. The only weakness I've found in the Krazr K1
(blue) is that it's EDGE only on the data rate.

Is that with the 2year agreement? I see it unlocked at Walmart.com for
229.63. I recently dropped mine in a puddle and it doesn't work anymore,
I'd like another one.

I fear you're right, and it's at the end of its life. I want a big
display on a trim phone, the rest isn't all that important. Is the Krazr
the same size screen? Is the price with or without a plan? I have AT&T now
with tons of rollover minutes that I don't want to lose.

If you're eligible for an upgrade (which if you've had that phone for
2 years you certainly should be), the phone is $79 if you sign on for
2 more years. $129 for a 1-year agreement. I didn't lose any
rollover minutes or anything with the new phone. My plan stayed the
same, etc, just the contract date changed.
The display is crisper than the RAZR. Screen size is comparable. The
Krazr is very sleek and is a narrower phone.

Phonescoop is a decent way to compare phones for your carrier.

If you liked you're V3 maybe have a look at one of the v3xx
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-pho..._sku=sku950136
it has a lot more features than the v3 black that I had to and not
that bad as far as upgrade price or you could get one of the new

I just got off the phone with AT&T and they want $119 to upgrade to a
KRZR and renew for 2 more years. Wonder how you got $79? I have 4 phones on
this account too.

That's why I recommended going to Wal Mart specifically. Until
recently AT&T was ass raping people for nearly $200 on this phone for
reasons never fully understood.
Go to a Wal Mart with a mobile phone counter.

But if you do that don't you need to be a new customer to get that
deal? Are you saying that you bought the phone outright with a new 2 year
agreement? If so, than how do you keep your original plan intact?

Just out of curiosity, don't they sell unlocked phones and "pre paid"
SIMs in the U.S.?
Here in thailand we can buy an unlocked phone, in fact nearly all
phones sold are unlocked, and then buy a "prepaid SIM" from any of the
three systems here.
When you run out of money you can "top up" your account by making a
bank transfer or by buying a "top up" card that contains code numbers
that you type in to let the phone company know you just paid 200 Baht
for the card which is then credited to your account.

No, you do not need to be a new customer. If you would actually read
the entirety of what I have typed in this thread to try to help you,
you would see that I was an existing customer and simply extended what
I had.
> Are you saying that you bought the phone outright with a new 2 year

I walked into Walmart as a Cingular/at&t customer of many many years
with an existing plan, and a phone I had for over 2 years. I pointed
to the Razr K1 blue and said "I'd like to upgrade to that phone, and I
want nothing on my contract or plan to change other than the contract
end date. Can we do that?" Clerk says "sure" I walk out of there
with a new phone for $79.99+$50 and my existing contract was simply
extended by a year. If you are okay with a 2 year extension, $79.99
is the price. Plus some sort of smallish fee of some sort.

Thanks for the answer. As here in Thailand we have three networks, all
nation wide, all GSM and all offering the same services, the US has
always looked like an extremely complex telephone system.
Here, for example, all calls within the country are the same price and
any "transfer fees" between the three mobile systems or between land
line and mobile systems are transparent to the user, and the bulk of
the mobile system "accounts" are prepaid. Subscription accounts are
mainly used by companies.

Thanks, I'm really not all that dense, it's just that AT&T tells me it's
impossible to get the phone that cheap added to an existing contract, and
even with a 2 year extension it's more. I wonder if it's a geographic thing?

Two local Walmart's here in Michigan have Krzr's for $98 and change with a
one year contract/extension. For a two year it's $48. They told me their
trying to get rid of the one year deals.
