Is there any software that will do this? I'm willing to pay.

I've got the most screwed phone. I'm not even able to email the movies
to myself, it gives an error that the files are too big. Verizon says
they have a firmware update but it will erase all my movies & pics.
Verizon even suggested I get 3rd party software for the task, and I
tried one, DataPilot but that crashes at the last moment saving the
files so they refunded my $25. I got Bitpim to work & download pics but
not movies. I used to have an older version of bitpim that let you see
the file structure, the new one doesn't.

I really want these files. There are about 100 of them of this kid I've
been working with, he's done all these neat little 15 second videos.

I've seen some of these methods to hack with 'seem'ing & such but is
that going to wipe out my files too? It appears that doesn't work with
    Verizon anyways.

Hard to believe there isn't a way to simply copy ordinary files.

Here's one for bluetooth, so I'd have to get the usb bluetooth thing for
my computer too, but they don't say if it overcomes the Verizon crap:
    http://www.cellphoneshop.net/ma730.html

Hmm, I called & they say it'll work. I'll have to wait for delivery,
another week, damn. I've got a USB cable, why mess with bluetooth?

Verizon won't allow copying any files they think they can sell you a
service for, like emailing them to yourself instead of simply copying them
to your hard drive over a USB cable or to a microSD card.

The hacking usually reformats over your stuff, so be very careful hacking
    into it.

It's too late to reflash the phone with Alltel's unscrewed firmware that
even lets you FTP to the phones on BT. That would dump all the data in the
reflash, too, but is a future solution I'm told works fine.

    Sorry....

The crazy thing is I can't even pay Verizon to let me send the files!!

OK thanks for confirming. I don't want to delete my files.

Strangely the only other 3rd party software I could find is:
Bluetooth Data Suite (MA-730) - Handset Manager
    http://www.cellphoneshop.net/ma730.html

    DataPilot doesn't work.

Larry wasn't clear, seem edits will not reformat or delete or overwrite
anything, flashing will. Seem edits make alterations to the phone's
built in programming, flashing completely overwrites the programming
    and every thing else.

All you need is a couple of seem edits.

OK I'm getting the picture. As long as I don't hose the phone, that
would let it work with the normal motorola software... Funny that
Verizon thinks I can do it with 3rd party software, maybe this is what
    they mean.

If those methods let you download the firmware to edit, couldn't I just
download my damn files or are they not in a normal file structure? I
only need to do this once, then I can get another phone or something.

Be sure the phone supports BT FTP or one of the other file transfers.
Verizon usually disables everything except headphones by default.

No, they mean using MPT or something similar but, as you've already
    discovered, that doesn't always work.

Getting PST or MSU and PKSeem won't let you download files, only seems.

MPT will do what you want but you can't get the Multimedia Studio to
work until you do the seem edits.

You might be happy with your phone once you mod it to allow full use of
    MPT et al.

BT FTP -> bluetooth file transfer protocol

Is that the same as OBEX?
This says my firmware version GATW_01.15.04 is very unlikely to support
    that: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V3C_Firmware.htm

The DataPilot software gave me a file list and began the transfer, then
bombed when trying to close that out, after watching the file transfer
    progress get to 100%

Right, and if other similar programs can do it without a seem edit, why
would people bother when the price is about the same? Is Motorola's MPT
that great? And why doesn't anyone mention these alternatives? I'd pay
$50 or more if it worked in this case. I've sure wasted a lot of time!

I can only find three programs so far:

$30 Motorola Phone Tools (needs seem edits)
    $25 DataPilot (crashes)
    $30 Bluetooth Data Suite

I'll probably get another phone with removable memory card. I'm sick &

    I don't think so....

To give you an idea of what the phones ARE capable of, before the carriers
start screwing around trying to trash them, I have a MotoROKR Z6m on
Alltel. I use it as a BT DUN modem for my Nokia N800 internet tablet,
which is paired with it on about 6 profiles.

Using the FTP protocol, I can connect the little internet tablet's File
Manager through BT to the phone's memory card, doubleclick on an MP3 file
stored on the removable 2GB microSD card in the phone....and media player
streams it to the tablet and plays the song!

I can also copy files, at will, between the tablet and the phone's internal
or card memory, move files and assign any MP3 I've moved from the card to
the phone internal memory as a ringtone. (Ringtones must just be located
in internal memory so you don't remove them, rendering ringing impossible
if someone calls while you have the card removed, which makes sense. My
ringtone sounds like a massive accident at a nuclear power plant. When
voicemail arrives, it ding-dong's and says "Avon Calling!"

If they'd just LEAVE THE DAMNED PHONES ALONE and put their logos on them,
we'd all be much better off.....

I snap pictures and movies directly to the removable memory card in my
    ROKR....no transfers are necessary.

Sorry if you don't live in Alltel country....

You can find MPT and data cables on Ebay from reliable vendors, I paid
$4.50 for a download version, no tax, no shipping.

You can find PKSeem and PST by doing a Google search.

Cost = nothing except some time.

OK I finally found more options:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/conferencing...-31355179.html
That's a review of the USB version of the Mobile Action Handset Manager
    software I linked above.

At the bottom of that review are some other programs, and in the body of
the review, including reviews of DataPilot, MPT &

    FutureDial Suite: http://www.futuredial.com/matrix/Default.aspx
which only supports the phonebook for me...

You can download Mobile Action Handset Manager from the manufacturer to
test and it does *not* support my phone, only the verizon V3m. I might
buy a bluetooth USB thing & try the BT version but that seems unlikely
to work. You can download the driver & the setup tells you if it's
    compatible:
    http://global.mobileaction.com/downl...ID=474&go=+Go+
Ah ha, alright it does indeed look like the bluetooth version
specifically supports my phone. Follow those instructions to check your
    exact version.

OK so the bluetooth version looks like it should work but the driver
refers to their USB bluetooth dongle thing so it looks like I'm stuck
ordering their package for $30 plus shipping.
