Have older version of Motorola's Phone Tools - does not support the V3a
(though the V3c is in its list)

Wrote to BVRP - no response. Thus what is the best way to upgrade this
older software? (and not to have to spend $60 or so for a new SW pkg!)

    Tks!

As far as I know, all versions of MPT will upgrade to the newest version of
MPT via the internet. The newer versions check on each startup. The older
versions only checked when you Menu-Setup-LiveUpdate. Some of the upgrade
steps are many MB, and the system seems to download them one at a time.

In my case the upgrade either didn't happen or didn't work. I went
through the motions and it still wouldn't recognize my RAZR V3m.

If this is a verizon phone? If yes I had the same situation. I found
out after getting it the verizon razors are crippled. Just another way
verizon can suck a little more money out of you through there Vcast
    crap.
I am told the phone can be unlocked. I never really looked into it.

Yes, it's a Verizon phone. I complained to Motorola Technical Support
and was allowed to download a version of Motorola Phone Tools that DID
support the RAZR. I was then able to set up my contacts list and
    calendar using my computer.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have signed up with a
different service provider. I had been with Verizon Wireless for years
both with and without a contract and had no problems with the service.
It was only after I bought two new RAZRs and signed a new contract that
I found out about some of the problems in dealing with Verizon.

I have no interest in watching TV or listening to music using my phone!
I don't watch TV at all any more and find that "popular music" mostly
    just hurt my ears!

I am an AllTel subscriber with 2 new V3a phones. MPT will
not work for me either. Downloaded newer MPT upgrade
    and still no luck.

Just updating MPT does not make it support the RAZR. Call the Motorola
Customer Support Center at (800) 657-8909. Explain your problem. I
can't speak for them but they gave me a time limited URL which I used to
download the version with RAZR V3m support.

The downloadable URL is a single download that should result in the same
level MPT as a series of updates applied to any version of MPT.

The MPT live updates only move one step at a time, so the downloads might
total over 100MB, instead of the URL, which is the latest level.

Via eBay - for $0.98, yes $o.98 via PayPal, I purchased Motorola's MPT
latest ver 4.5.6a said to support ALLTEL CDMA Razr V3a. So far it does
    not.

BTW, the eBay supplier said the 4.5.6a does NOT support/work with the V3a!

Motorola sent me this afternoon a page of instructions relative to how to
make 4.5.6a work with the V3a (CDMA)

Stay tuned. Will see later this evening and report back.

Same here. I have been with verizon several years back into the Air
    Touch days...
Being a long time customer means **** to them...

I thought it would be cute if I could make an mp3 I like into a ring
tone. Or easily move a few pictures back and forth from the computer
    to the phone.

Nothing I had in mind worked. The only way I could make it happen was
to use the blood sucking Vcast. Not a chance.

I was able to do a little of what I wanted by putting things on the
memory card and renaming the files.

But I was and still am really disappointed with verizon for selling me
such a crippled piece of **** and not telling me till I bought it.
And with motorola for making this neutered piece of crap for verizon.

I guess any whore will swallow if the price is right...

Go to www.howardforums.com and www.motox.info to learn how to uncripple your
phone. It's not hard to do and you'll get what you paid for. While others
here may disagree, you bought a phone that Motorola spent millions
advertising as having certain capabilities and functions and you had a
reasonable expectation that you would get what was advertised. The fact that
Verizon disables - I call it cripples - the phone is certainly whithin their
rights, but they have a duty to let you know that their product is not as
fully featured and capable as the version Motorola advertises. Sounds like
    a good class action suit!

So far so good... I did call. They did email me a link to download
what should work with this V3m.
I have not tried it yet. But will let the results be known, good or
    bad...

Not sure why they asked if I wanted to continue in (English). Then I
