Motorola has announced 3 new Handsets at 3GSM. 1st off, they have
rolled out a new Z6 slider, now called the Moto Z6w, with added Wi-Fi
capabilities with the same base design of the original GSM Z6 Phone.
The new Moto Z6w also offers Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) for making
calls over a VoIP connection. Motorola also introduces two new world
phones, the Moto W161 and Moto W181, both which focus on budget prices
for developing countries, stripping out the extra goodies of having a
camera or Bluetooth, except for the perk of an FM radio. The Moto W161
offers a monocrome display for an ultra-budget price, with the Moto
W181 offering a color display. Both are planned for release next
    month.

I wonder why a Z6 needs wifi. I have Z6m on Alltel EVDO and nothing on the
phone needs even that speed because the software in the phone just sucks
because it's just BREW. I'm Bluetooth DUN tethered to a Nokia N800 Linux
tablet, so I only use the phone as a modem. If there's wifi, the tablet
connects to it even much better than my laptop with a really HOT Nokia wifi
transceiver. The tablet can use wifi my big Gateway laptop can't even
    FIND!

They'll never let a SELLphone have VoIP that cuts out the SELLphone company
from selling you outrageously-priced bogus long distance. Skype runs fine
over 1X or EVDO through my connection with no video. Files, of course,
transfer better on EVDO with more speed.

Do you think SELLphone companies are going to let you bypass their data
service charges and let you use BREW apps for free over any ol' wifi it
    finds? Pfat Chance in HELL!....(c;

It'll connect to the SELLPHONE COMPANY wifi to shed you from their data
system load.....ONLY!.....for a "small extra charge", I'm sure.....

Some people are using Fring on their wifi-enabled phone to make voip
calls. Such phones don't even need to have a sim card to make calls.

    Thanks for the headsup. There's so many services...(c;

    I wonder why it says:
"This product uses the Skype™ API but is not endorsed or certified by
    Skype."
when Skype certification is so easy to get??

You don't need a smartphone to make really cheap overseas calls, cheaper
than Skype, over any ordinary SELLphone with no downloading or installation
and NO DATA PLAN, at all. Check out Mobivox:
    http://www.mobivox.com/
Just like Skype, you precharge Mobivox to call phones/sellphones overseas
with $10 from your credit card. Most places are 1.9c/min. Any phone can
call Mobivox landline, sellphone, prepaid. It only uses airtime when
    airtime isn't free (unlimited N/W).

If you and your party are both mobivox members, the calls are free from
phone to phone, sellphone to sellphone. Mobivox calls to Skype are always
free. You can call your buddy in Tokyo, to his Skype, from your POTS, by
dialing the local Mobivox access number and voice selecting him from your
own normal Skype contact list Mobivox downloads from the Skype server when
you call. It's all voice activated so works great on handsfree driving
    down the road, too.

No data plan, no smartphone, airtime only when other calls use
airtime...from any phone, not just some smartphones. Clear as a bell.
