    I found W98SE to be far more reliable than anything that preceded it but
    I still needed to reboot fairly frequently. With W/2K I didn't need to
    reboot so frequently. With W/XP I let my system run for a week or two
    between reboots. It's still not perfect but Windows has come a long
    way!! I hear really bad things about W/Vista and I no intention of
    using it!

    You've heard correctly and are wise to avoid Vista.

    I discovered that when I'm in a "fringe" area and tend to lose signal
    frequently, my battery will only last a couple of days, but in a strong signal
    areas it will last a week! Seems that when you lose a signal it begins searching
    for a signal and will simply run itself down searching. Took a while to figure
    that out, but it works. One of the places I hunt is in a "dead" area in west
    Texas. I can go there with a full charge on Friday and by Sunday my battery will
    be nearly dead if I don't put it on a charger. Lasts a week in Dallas.
