I have a Motorola V195S and T-Mobile recently gave me the unlock code.
How can I check if it works without having to install a different SIM card?
Thanks.

I suspect you can't. You'll need to find a SIM card from another company.

I got this procedure for my V195S from T-Mobile customer support. I
never used it because I already had the foreign SIM, so you're on your
own. This is copied directly from the T-Mobile email, so any errors are
theirs:
1. From the main screen, press the Menu key and then quickly enter
073887*. (A new window opens at the bottom of the screen.)
2. You are prompted for the security code. Enter the code and then
press
OK. (Default code is 000000.)
3. The Program Option screen appears.
4. Scroll to and select SIM Unlock.
5. Enter the SIM Subsidy Unlock code.
6. Select OK.
7. Press the red End key to exit.
BTW, you're not just "checking if it works", because if it does work,
you're done and won't ever have to use it again.

Re: How To Check If Unlock Code Works
Thanks, Bert, for the reply. Just wanted to let you know that
T-Mobile's instructions do not work for my V195S. The only option that
appears on the Programming Menu after I enter the default code 000000
and press OK is "Browser Setup". And if I press the Select key for that
option, nothing happens.
Based on your comment, I gather that the unlocking procedure is a
one-way route, correct?
Thanks.

I've seen comments from some T-Mobile users that they've been able to
walk into an AT&T store and "borrow" a SIM card for a few minutes, or
maybe you can borrow one from a friend with AT&T service.
You may even be able to buy a pre-paid AT&T SIM card without a phone;
T-Mobile sells theirs on their Web site for about $10.

The unlock is permanent (unless you re-program the phone with firmware
that came from a locked phone, but that's not the sort of thing you're
likely to be involved in).

Why would anyone want to re-lock a phone?
