There just isn't any coherent information about this on the internet,
and in fact there isn't very much coherent data on mobile phones at
all... which, considering their popularity, is rather odd. I've removed
the battery, and I don't see any slot for a MicroSD card, just the SIM
card. One of the odd things about the internet documentation is that
many of the responders don't seem to know the difference between a SIM
card and a Micro SD card. Can't make any sense at all out of what
they're saying. Is there some way I can tell whether my V3 will accept
a micro SD memory card by checking the model number, and are there any
coherent directions on how to install it? I'm just amazed they people
sell these things without proper documentation. I bought a device that
was touted as "brand new" and it obviously isn't. I'd assumed it could
take a memory card, but apparently maybe sorta kinda not?

    Look on Motorola's web page.

But to be totally serious, enter "RAZR" in the "Series" window, and what
you get is zip. This tells me that the industry is simply incoherent.
You may pay any price for any product, and there's almost no
relationship to quality or function. You can't even find out what
you've bought. Why anyone thinks this situation is sustainable is
    beyond me.

It doesn't seem like much of a problem to me. If you select "RAZR"
in the series window you'll find Motorola current sells 8 "RAZR" models
in the US, and looking at the technical specifications will tell you
if there is a microSD slot or not. I have a V3, which doesn't
have a slot, and a V3xx, which does. What do you have?

    Dennis:

I have no idea, and no way to tell.

Have looked all over the internet and the only literate answers to the
question of "how do I tell which model I have are:"

"Which model does it look like?" and

    "Can you ask the seller?"

There's a designation under the battery that says: "GSM V3" which would
lead to to believe it's not, well... I don't know what that means. As
far as I can tell there aren't and sd slots anywhere.

The flex version says V3xx something or other.

The fact that there's no information on the internet about how to easily
determine what version you've got suggests a level of deliberate
obfuscation so that resellers can just "take" the gullible (like
myself). But I'm going to return this because it was advertised as
"brand new" and it clearly couldn't have even been produced within the
last few years... so the advertisement for it was deliberately deceptive.

But because I can't really count on any user groups or the manufacturer
to give me any sort of "heads up" about what's going on I think I'll
just wait until the recession makes these folks a little more honest and
comprehensible. Apparently the V3 has 5MB of onboard memory.

    Whoa! A whole 5MB.

I had a computer 20 years ago that had twice that much.

I can see why they'd obfuscate about models, etc.. But frankly I don't
see why they shouldn't just be giving these things away. 5MB???

Oh, and BTW (although I appreciate your response) when I indicated
"RAZR" in the model series I got a page that simply said "No Results
Found." Again, I think this is deliberate... but extremely misguided.

If I could find a reliable phone with a dependable user group I'd buy
it. I'd feel foolish not returning this, however. I feel "taken."

Well, now I really don't know what to think. Prices on various versions
of the RAZR V3 (with various letters appended) apparently range from
$.01 to over $200. This suggests that the brand is simply a mess. If I
buy a set of Sennheiser headphones there'll be a model number and a
fairly narrow range of prices for unused equipment (which will not be
sold as "brand new" if they were made in 2004).

Again, this brand is a mess. I had no idea things were this bad.

RAZR is a "family" of phones. There is a "RAZR" with no further
designation and a "RAZR V3m" which I have. This suggests that there may
be "V3a", "V3b", "V3c". . . . It would not surprise me to learn that
there is a "RAZR V4", etc.

That came up with various models for me, although it took a long time
before anything appeared on the page. Putting Razr in the search box at
the top of the page showed a bunch of links. The first was
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/razr/ which has all of the family
    members.

Wikipedia descriptions describe features of each model that might allow you
to puzzle out which version you have.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_RAZR
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_RAZR_V3
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_RAZR%C2%B2
The "modem diagnostic" in Windows reveals the model number, if you connect
it to a PC via Bluetooth, or the USB modem driver.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_phone_AT_commands
    http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto...ng_drivers.asp

    Mine says
    AT+GMM - +GMM: "GSM900","GSM1800","GSM1900","GSM850","MODEL=V3r"

The printed label under the battery says V3(G8/9/18/19)
Referencing the same abilities for GSM bands as the modem response, but not
mentioning the "V3r" model number, which would be just too easy.

    Visiting http://www.motorola.com/us "Mobile Phones",
I don't see v3r on the screen after I select "razr" from the "series"
    dropdown.

Searching for V3(G8/9/18/19) provides some links that don't specifically
mention v3r, but at least it leads to information about my phone, which
includes mention of 5MB of memory, and no mention of add-on memory cards.

open the battery cover on the back and see if there is a card slot
underneath. I have the V3xx. Thats where it goes. Takes a Micro SD.

Re: Can V3 use Micro SD card?

    I finally returned the phone. It's wasn't just that I couldn't install
an SD card, but that the battery only lasted a few minutes once I'd used
it for an actual phone call. The seller touted the device as "brand
new" even though none have been produced since before 2005, so it's not
surprising that the battery was garbage after being unused for this
long. Note to resellers: "Brand new isn't the same as "unused."" If it
were, a 1932 uncirculated quarter would be worth 25 cents instead of a
    few thousand dollars.

This is the third mobile phone I've purchased via ebay that I've had to
return, at my own expense. This market is a trainwreck, and the
manufacturers have played no small part in the market confusion and
outright fraud. Motorola isn't the only "reseller helper" manufacturer.
LG and other manufacturers are dumping their seconds and unsold items
into the aftermarket, and it's a matter of "buyer beware." I won't be
buying any more mobile phone products from ebay. The manufacturers and
service providers had better take the consumer seriously and clean this
situation up, or there soon won't be any market to preserve.

    Well, 'nuff said I guess.

If it's been in the box since being manufactured then it's brand new, at
least by the definition of every retailer I've ever encountered.

Not all products age well in this condition.

I doubt that's the case, since the box was somewhat worn and the user
manual was missing a couple of pages. Also, it look like the back guard
had been replaced, since it wasn't quite the same shade of black as the
rest of the phone. And there was a chip on the right side. So even by
those standards "brand new" was probably a stretch.

I still need a phone though. Is there a model of Motorola that anyone
can suggest? Maybe the new version of the Razor, V9 or something?
