Read the sticker under the battery.

Good Idea The sticker under the label has a model number of 92936XWXBA
Which is no way near P7382 or P7289

Suggestions? Is there some key combination to get the Handset to give up
    its model number?

Read more of it. Every Motorola phone I've owned has the model number
on the sticker. On my current, there are three bar codes with a set of
words and numbers under each. The middle one says: "Model: T720c" My
previous has it's model number in the same place, the one before that
    along the side instead.

Unless the sticker is damaged, the model number should be on there.
    Otherwise, contact Motorola.

I am looking into the back of my [spare] P7389, and there is nothing obvious
to identify the model. Nor does my Ti250.

Well, all I can say then is that it's there on all of the Mot phones
    I've had and have.

I guess that leaves "contact Motorola".

The only way that I would go about to figure out the difference between
    the two model will be:
    1. Check on the label behind the battery
    2. Search both models via Google.com.
