GPRS Free ??? Not true.
Wap browsing via GSM is free (or at least is included in your free monthly
minutes) BUT using GPRS costs.
O2 did have a free period back in June, but from July they started charging.
I think it is just under £3 per megabyte.
GPRS calls are not included in your monthly call allowance.
I think you can buy a contract for GPRS for about £7 a month which gives you
a certain amount of data 'free' which works out cheaper than paying as you
use.
Glad you got it to work.

Re: Motorola t720i (o2 network)
Well so far i've not been charged, and it's definitely the GPRS service
i'm accessing as well.....
Not sure how it works then!
"How much does it cost?
If you are accessing O2 Active through WAP on GSM, you will be charged
by the minute to browse according to your normal tariff rates.
If you are connecting to O2 Active using the much faster GPRS then
currently you can browse the portal for free. You will only be charged
for services you subscribe to (e.g. Media Messaging Alerts) or
downloads that you request e.g. pictures, ringtones including
polyphonic ringtones, games etc"
Does that not mean it's free?

The information I was given was that it stopped being free at the end of
June.
Maybe it is an introductory offer - have you joined them recently ?
Either that or they did not stop the free period as they said they were
going to.
Mind you, when I tried to get information on this, everyone at O2 I spoke to
told me something different.
In the end I asked someone to put it in writing for clarification. This is
what I received (cut and pasted from their e-mail):
Thank you for contacting O2 Member Service.
The free period for GPRS WAP ends on 30 June 2003.
If you change to GSM WAP you can use as many of your 100 minutes of
your monthly call allowance for WAP calls as you feel fit.
Unfortunately, there is no way to exchange SMS for minutes.
I hope that this clarifies the situation for you.
So we seem to have conflicting information !

Re: Motorola t720i (o2 network)
Bit of a puzzle that then, cos i've had the same sim card with o2 for
the past year and had the same number with them for the past 3+.
Don't understand why it's not costing me, but not one to complain

Re: Motorola t720i (o2 network)
If its an online contract sim you get 0.5Mb free on gprs, from then on its
at a rate of £3 per Mb, but billed by the kb.
