    Hi All
Jaguar want to charge around £700 for a Motorola phone that fits in a Jaguar
X type. Does anyone know if there is a common model number for this phone
(so I dont have to buy it from Jag) or is there any possibility of a
connector from the in car plug to another phone.

    thanks

    bob

Why not plug it in to another car. BMW 5 series (even slightly used) will
knock spots off an X-type Jag. Indeed the only Jag's worth looking at are
the XJ8 and possibly XK8 (haven't actually even been in one of these, so I
    can't say).

Over here on eBay UK there are a few Startac 130s being sold as the
'Jaguar phone', some even have the Jaguar logo on. If the connector is
the thin flat one, that's probably the Startac fitting.

This has been a common question/issue in cellular/wireless forums since the
inception of the car phone. You can only use the phone manufactured for
Jaguar (or BMW or Mercedes or LEXUS ) that is designed for that car. They
put specially configured firmware in the phone for just that reason. So even
if it is the same exact model, if it is not the Jaguar version, it will not
interface with the cars install kit. And , this has been asked many times,
you will not find anyone to FLASH it for you. That firmware is in a cabinet,
next to the Gold at Ft Knox lol. Theres no way around it. PERIOD.

Why not plug in something other than a phone? Perhaps a TV? Why would he ask
about a Jag connection when he could have asked about the state of the
universe? My response would be as useful as yours.
