I have a timeport t280i.
I want to be able to use the infrared connection for dial-up purposes so
that I can access internet/e-mails etc.
The laptop recognises the ir connection straight away - however, I don't
know what to do next.
I was assuming that I would probably need some drivers for the laptop
(running win2k) - but I have no idea where to get this and Motorola site
doesn't help.
Am I on the right tracks - i.e. needing a driver file and if so does anyone
know where I can get this?
A usb daa cable is on its way to me - if the ir connection doesn't work -
will the cable be any mre straight forward?
Thanks

Depends on your OS, but it looks like a [Hayes] standard modem.

Don't need special drivers.

Part of the OS.

If you do want a cable you do need a special Mot' one which costs $$$.

Should work out of the box, albeit slowly because of the radio segment.

Thanks for this - probably me being dim but I don't know how to set this
up.
If I simply make the irda connection and try to dial-out this is rejected
immediately - the mobile doesnt even try to dial a number (although it does
when I do this through my Palm).
I can't install it as a modem because then it needs a comm port and in the
modem set-up there is no option to choose infrared.
I even tried a program which creates a virtual comm port and then added the
mobile - this time I just got a message telling me that the ir port was
already in use.
Help!

Does this mean make irda connection and dial or is it more complex than
that?

The phone Irda port needs to be able to see the Irda on the PC.
The modem needs to switched on from the menus in the phone, and unless used
it switches off after a minute.
The OS in the PC should recognise the device and then you can connect up.
If all else fails read the instructions...

Re: TP280 infrared connection to laptop (SOLUTION)
The problem you are having is the "dreaded" WIN2000 Irda problem. to this
day, Msft has had problem with the infrared on WIN 2000 when dealing with
Cell Phones and PDA's llike the PALM. The solution, fortunately, is cfree.
You need to oget a driver called irCOMM2K Once installed, WIN 2000 will
detect the Phone as TIMEPORT MODEM and self install. Go to this site
http://wirelessway.blogspot.com and go to the right margin and go to the
Wireless Phone Links. You will see irCOMM2k Link to get IRCOMM and happy
motoring. (Make sure that you disable the box in MODEM setup that says wait
for dialtone)
This is a MUST HAVE solution for anyone running WINDOWS 2000 and wish to use
a Wireless Phine or PDA's infra red capabilities.
