I have the said phone and data cable and when I try using it as a modem for
my laptop the phone dials and I get 14.4k data and after about 4 seconds the
computer through DUN says there is no answer. I know there is so am I
missing somthing? I have the correct drivers. I am with Cellular One.

Have they turned on your data access, or whatever they call it?

I'm not familiar with Cingular, but there may be. Text messaging and
data through a laptop are different. Call customer service and hope
that the rep you get knows what's what.
