I plan to buy a used T720 GSM (probably an ex-AT&T model) for use on
T-Mobile. Their cust support can provide the SIM unlock code, so I
don't have go and buy an already-unlocked one. =20

One concern: The old phone might have an old, buggy firmware version.
It appears that upgrading the firmware is not a DIY thing, nor can it
be done over the network. =20

    1. Does anyone know if T-Mobile stores are equipped to upgrade the
    firmware on this phone?

    2. In case customer service can't provide an unlock code, are the
    online unlocking services legitimate?

Yes if YOU own the phone and the software is BABT or whatever approved.
