How should i charge my li-ion battery of my cellphone?

Hi,
I got a cellphone li-ion battery for my cellphone. How sholud i
charge/discharge my li-ion battery to prolong and maximise li-ion
battery's lifespan? I got a new Samsung cellphone, the battery was
inserted by the sales assisstant. But when i got back, the battery is
shown to be full on the battery indicator! How long should i charge
for the first time? How many times should i charge initially before
using cellphone? Should i use the cellphone until 1 bar on the
indicator before recharging, and how much should i charge the
cellphone , as shown by the indicator,full or partial?? There seems to
be different theories in this topic.Please help clear my confusion!

The first time it should be charged for at least 12 hours before using. The
next 2 or 3 times you should run the battery down as low as you can and then
charge. After that, charge it when ever. I usually plug the car charger in
when I'm driving to keep a full charge.

The first time it should be charged for at least 12 hours before using. The
next 2 or 3 times you should run the battery down as low as you can and then
charge. After that, charge it when ever. I usually plug the car charger in
when I'm driving to keep a full charge.

As low as u can generally means until it switches off by itself. If you are
unable to do so, then when it bleeps the battery low warning, charge it full
for 12-16 hours. For bigger capacity batteries (9210 3310 and 5110 series
batteries add a few more hours - 16 would be great)

batteries, but, as indicated above, most emphatically does NOT apply

Yes, but with a nimh battery do discharge it fully else it'll be sorta
useless in 2 years light use on a 3310. the compatible li-ion works much
better.

Very interesting article. I think the article is a bit unclear at
first, however. If the battery is linear, then you'd expect that by
discharging it 25% each time you'd get 4x as many charge/discharge
cycles as if you did 100%. This makes the 5x or 6x sound a bit less
astounding.

In other words, you get 25% to 50% more life out of your battery if
you only discharge it a quarter each time. That's quite good, but not
as impressive as the article sounds at first.
