I've been a ATT&T TDMA customer for a long time and i recently bought a
    i730 from nextel.

Ages ago, the battery life of a cell phone was pathetic and we are
supposed to charge the device every 12 hours or so. But when i bought my
last TDMA phone, it came with a 950 mAh li-ion battery that was really
good. The stand by time was something like 5 to 6 days without much talk
time. So when i went out on trips, i will just charge it once and use
the phone sparingly to conserver the power.

But with my new phone, i'm not really pleased with the standby time.
thought i dont care much about talk time, i really dont want the phone
to switch itself off if i forgot to charge it for a while. I have tro
charge this phone whether i use it or not every day. if i use it i have
to charge it more than once a day.

The phone has this stupid battery door that is annoying if you have to
charge it every now and then. Though the battery door is nice on a
phone, i think it is annoying on a phone that drains the battery quite
    often.

So, is there a higher capacity battery for i730 (i dont see one on the
    nextel site)?

And why does the battery perfomance on these phones do not live up the
    expectations (i.e 75 hours)?

    /V

PS: My TDMA phone was charged two days ago and it still has 90% capacity
while my nextel has been power cycled almost 4 times. the talk time on
both the phones are almost the same.

sounds like you might have a bum battery, with about 10 minutes of usage
each day, my i730 goes about 3 days before it really has to be recharched.

Maybe. but i did condition the battery during the first use.
theoriticaly, it should give me the max capacity.

it should give you max cap but you obviously don't have it. i can go for about 4 days if i never use the phone...which only happened when i left it on when i didn't have service on vacation, but on average i charge everynite.
there's isn't an extended battery door that i've seen yet.

I think i'll give another week before calling the CS. my phone seems to
give me some troubles. when i key in my voice mail password, the keeys
seems to get stuck. Also, when i flip open to take a call, it take more
than few seconds to actually pick up the call.

I think it looks like the processor on the phone is overloaded so the
response time it really low. As i'm not a cell phone programmer, i may
    be wrong.

Wecome to the nightmare that is the i730. I have had 5 of them (all
replaced by Nextel) and finally have one that works without locking up
and has a decent signal stregnth.

    Good luck,

    Mike

I would not wait any longer and try to get it done as soon as possible,
especially if you are still within your trial period. The 'locking up'
and delayed responses situation is a known issue with Nextel/Motorola.
Been reading about it for 3 months now on www.Howardforums.com The key
stuck when you type in your voicemail password only happened to me when
I would place the call and then switch it to speaker phone before
    entering the pass code.

As for the battery that would all depend on the area you are in, as to
what kind of life you will get from each charge. The towers (as well as
many other factors) in each area are responsible for your batteries life
(at least is for GSM/TDMA so would assume for iDen as well). I use the
voice about 40 minutes and the DC about 25 minutes per day and can get
at least 2 days out of it. So getting a new battery might fix that
problem, or might not...but talk to Nextel. :-) HTH.
