ok heres my rant, i havew been a nextel customer for 2 years and 3
    months,
got my phones december 2001 on the team share 1000 plan, it included
for 35.00 a month per phone, 300 shared anytime minutes with per
second billing, unlimited nights and weekends starting at 8pm, free
longdistance, free nationwide coverage and 200 direct connect minutes.
all was good for 4 months, then dextel decided to modify the contract
(hey i cant modify the contract why can they?, oh yeah thier the
    company thats why)
any way they decided to change my per second cellular billing to
regular round up billing, and they decided to change my nights and
weekends start time from 8pm to 9 pm. i complained, they said, hey we
did it to everyone so its not just you. i didnot think that was fair,
but they said they notified everyone in theier bill a month before.
ok well we never got over that but we stayed a customer. in sept 2003
i decided to call up nextel to ask them what options they had for
adding nextel online, the guy told me that we have these options, one
of wich was 10.00 unlimited internet, and he said were running a
promotion on that until the end of the month, wich would give me an
extra 60 bonus minutes a month for cellular, so i thought that would
be great so i said sign me up! he did and made no mention to me that
he was signing me up for a new contract. last week i was tired of the
service with nextel and i found alltel had a great plan, i didnot use
the direct connect that much anyway. well nextel could not counter
offer the plan, the were not even close, so i told them that i would
like to cancel they said ok sir we will cancel you, but there will be
a 200.00 early termination fee. i said WHAT!? i have kept the same
plan for 2 years. oh sir, your contract was renewed back in september.
i told them i was not aware of that and did not agree to that. they
were not helpful and we went around and around for an hour. finally i
called back and asked for4 information about how to contact corporate
nextel, later i found out i was looking for "executive customer
support" i talked to a woman her name was debby, i explained my dis
satisfaction and feelings of unfairness to what happened, she took
several minutes and said ok sir we eill remove the 60 bonus minutes,
and that will push your contract date back to the original expiration
of 2002, and i will cancel your service as you request with no
    penality.

it was interesting that nextel customer service doesnot have any
special plans that they can give a long time customer to keep them as
a customer, they only things they were offering me was the current
plans. ohwell, nextel has some shady sneeky contract practices.

I suspect they probably do, but most companies only offer the plans to
customers with a profitable (for Nextel) account. If Nextel isn't
making money from you, or wouldn't make money based on your habits if
they moved you to a retention plan, then they have no incentive to offer
    you anything.

I think that ALL contracts of this nature should have to be signed off
on by the customer either via voice after all the T&Cs are read to
them or on paper. Cellular carriers are going crazy with their 'you
agree to anything we say to agree to if you use your phone' clause.
There needs to be some new laws to address this, IMO.

That said, I am glad that Nextel finally agreed to do the right thing
for you by not trying to enforce the 'contract' you never new about.
