A friend says he has a Nextel but when I talked him through the menus to find
his private id, he said it was blank?

I thought you could have private id only phones, but not the other way around?

See More: Can you have Nextel service w/out a private id ?

Have your friend DC you and see what comes up on your phone. AFAIK,
    you can't block DC.

I can't speak to Nextel, but TELUS Mobility definitely does offer
phone-only (without DC) rate plans (retention plans only, not publicly
available) -- I would suspect that Nextel CAN do it, but whether they
will or not is another question.

It's not an optical illusion. It just looks like one.

I don't know how it works but I have a friend that has had Nextel for years
with no DC. I even checked his phone.

Ok, how did you check his phone?

Did you try to DC someone from the phone?
