I was told by my local Nextel dealer that I could hook up my IPAQ h1940 to
the Motorola i710, but I'm having no luck. Now I am stuck with this Nextel
service for 2 years and the main reason I signed up was to get this IPAQ
    online!

    1. Anyone know where to find an adapter for this? I can't find it on
    nextel.com

    or

    2. How can I get out of this 2 year contract? And could I sell the two i710
phones that came with this deal on ebay?

how long have you had the service..if less then 30 days then you can
terminate the service and return the phones with no penality. if longer
then 30 days then you have to pay early termination fee's

Just an update. I'm thinking about keeping the Nextel service because of the
new upcoming Motorola i930. It is exactly what I need and anything
comparable with Sprint or Verizon would cost about the same, for the type of
service and phone. I took a trip up to the white mountains of Arizona
yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that my Nextel phone worked in deep
valleys and behind mountains out in no man's land in the middle of the
desert. I'm not too thrilled about the tech support... so far I still do not
have web access on my phone and it has been 7 days. The tech support people
keep telling me it will be another "4 hours" and now another "12 to 24
    hours", etc.

I am glad you are happy with Nextel. I hope you remain so and post this as
often as you can. I for one and impressed by the particular level of
assholes I deal with in respect to the way current users are trampled on. My
issues are many with the latest being their policy of requiring a complete
renewal of my contract in order to update my service. I needed to ADD more
time and agree to PAY THEM MORE and but still they demand I start over again
with a new two year agreement. I also would like to buy a new and improved
phone(i860) which they will be happy to sell me ($300) if I again agree to
sign on for an additional two years. Otherwise I am obliged to fork over
$500.00 for this item. (such a deal). No such thing as customer loyalty
here. They have taken this to an all high LOW. These people are indeed
thoughtless lowlifes and whenever I get the chance I will express my
feelings about this disgusting style of business I will do so. The term
gouging comes to mind along with stronger terms also fit like a glove.

Good luck with your dealings with NEXTEL.

You're having me second guess my decision to stick with Nextel. I also think
their 2-year auto renewal penalty for any change to one's account is
ignorant and perhaps illegal. It struck me as being very strange when I
first learned about it today. Things may change in the next year now that
Sprint is in this. But remember you can always shove the phones up their
you-know-what and just not pay the $200 early termination fee. That is my
backup plan if things go sour.

I wish I could. I only got this service to please a teenager and knew
nothing about these totally unheard of tactics when I applied for a
contract. I was told I must pay a refundable deposit of $500.00. The
salesperson said I would most likely receive this back within a few months
to a year. I have no credit cards but use debit cards instead. (Why pay
interest if I HAVE the cash). I now learn that in addition to the $200
disconnect fee I will lose all or a portion of the $500. also. Seems the
company that worked me at the mall will be entitled to a fee of their own. I
am sure it must be in the contract but am still unable to find it. If I
wanted to get my money's worth I guess I could let her run up a huge bill
and wait until they disconnect it and never pay. I am surprised that you get
such good coverage as I am in southern New Hampshire and there are many
areas that are total dropout points. I hope there is something that the
lawmakers can do because this style can catch on real fast and this being
the future of things is scary. I also notice that Verizon DSL wants a
contract for their ISP service. Hell I can remember when cable TV was
totally unheard of and we all had antennas on our roofs. Pay to watch TV?
That will never happen. The sum of this all is that Nextel shoots for the
big business crowd that don't mind throwing away large sums of money.

Good luck and read all the fine print if you can understand it.

OK that's it... I am taking this crap back. Although the coverage is good in
MY area, I was happy about that... they STILL haven't got my Internet hooked
up. They told me to turn my phone off and back on and wait 4 hours ONE TOO
MANY TIMES. THIS PHONE IS GOING BACK TODAY!

Totally from a coverage standpoint I find that my TracFone has the best
coverage by far. Well over and above any other. I was in Jamaica in
September and I was surprised that I was able to use it there. I am not
knowledgeable of the working details as to how this happens but fact that
this phone is analog is why the coverage is better by far than any digital
phone. This was admitted to me by tech support and will remain so for some
time. The fact that it worked in Jamaica and cost me the same rate to use as
home here in the US has to do with being able to locate a working network.
Again another advantage of an analog phone system. This is a perfect example
of high tech failure to serve a better means. I just got off the phone with
Nextel discussing the purchase of the i860 and was told that if I do buy
this phone at a cost of $449.00 I will receive a $50.00 rebate and will be
allowed to terminate my two year contract and go on a monthly rate. Now
after hearing this from a tech support newbee I can not help but wonder if
it is really true. Logic tells me something just does not smell right in the
aromatic world of "wake up and smell the coffee", metaphorically speaking. I
would hope someone in this group might be informed enough to verify this but
I am not sure just who inhabits this crowd of seemingly intelligent users.
The prospect of using a cell with virtually no contract far exceeds my
expectations and if this is truly the case then I will happily enjoy dining
on a meal of my own words. Not to hard to swallow :0)

Good luck Rich and I hope you find what is a satisfying plan somewhere and
somehow. Please post back and keep me informed if you can or email me as my
    addy posting here is real.

    Regards.

I returned the phones today. They charged me $35 * 2 for activation and $15
    * 2 for restocking them, plus the pro-rated charges for using them 122
    minutes.

I'm thinking Verizon Wireless might be the best deal for what I need. They
have a 14 day trial. I won't know until I try them. One thing I do know is
that Nextel sucks and it cost me about $150 to find it out.

Verizon does sound like a better deal for me also. I am still thinking
about trying their DSL package. Maybe some day these companies will become
better regulated as I have read this will eventually happen. At least full
disclosure up front with all the costly details hidden in the double talking
    fine print.

    Good luck.

    re:Nextel i710 to IPAQ h1940 ???

As usual, your mileage will vary. I had a Verizon phone for exactly
one year, to the day. If you can't guess, I had to just let the
contract run out. I was promised great service by a friend who
worked for them, and we decided to give them a shot.

My wife was working at a local "authorized dealer" so she bought the
phone through them. The one she bought came with a different
faceplate. They promised her that the faceplate change would NOT
void the warranty since it was put on by the dealer.

So after about 3 months, dropped calls and no service areas started to
abound. We could walk through our local grocery store and she would
have no signal, where my AT&T phone was at full strength. We
could be driving down the road, in the *dead center* of her coverage
map, and would be roaming onto Sprint's network (dialing 611 while
roaming got us Sprint's welcome message.)

We called them and they assured us it was the phone, and we just had
to bring the phone to the actual Verizon store in the mall and they
would replace it under warranty at no charge. We took it in, they
said the warranty was void because of the faceplate. Later I found
out she noted the account that the warranty was void on the phone so
there was nothing we could do.

We ended up getting the royal shaft from Verizon. I always recommend
against them as much as I can. I've always been happy in the 3 years
I've had Nextel. I've only had them for my personal phone for the
last 6 months, but my wife and brother have had them for the 3 years
now. AT&T was decent for the longest time, but in the last 6
months before their merger, their service went down hill, prompting
my change to Nextel on my phone.

All you can really do is talk to people you know in your local area
and see how they like it. Go directly to the actual company, not an
authorized dealer, and get anything they say that doesn't sound right
    in writing.

I wish you luck with Verizon, hopefully you will have better luck than
    I did.
