Re: Here comes VERIZON 'direct connect'

That is correct. 800 MHz penetrates and 1.9 GHz bounces and is
reflected. Actually the previous use of the 1.9 GHz band was for point
to point fixed microwave systems (dishes on the sides of towers and
buildings). Since the reallocation, the 2 GHz microwave users were
moved to 6 GHz and higher frequencies and the areas around 2 GHz was
reallocated and auctioned to PCS providers.

Lets just say that when 2.0 GHz was utilized in a fixed application it
was affected by rain, snow, and other atmospheric conditions...now you
add in a moving vehicle and/or a building with 15 dB of loss....no
thanks, I'll stay at 800 MHz for reliable comms.--

I was going to stay out of this, but there seems to be enough
    mis-information. I own a Nextel i90c phone and service because I have
to, and also own a Verizon Startac and service with them because I want
    to.

My Verizon phone is triband, dual mode. It is 800MHz AND 1.9 GHz
Digital, AND 800MHz Analog. Coverage practically everywhere. I used to
have Sprint, and with their 1.9MHz coverage I could never get a signal
indoors at my home. Verizon's signal works fine indoors, as most 800MHz
    signals do penetrate buildings better.

Now if you have Nextel service, and it works for you, then fine, but you
are seriously kidding yourself if you really believe that Nextel service
and coverage is anywhere near as comprehensive as Verizon's service and
coverage. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

People will stick up for whatever they have to justify their purchase,
but you can't bury your head in the sand from the facts.

BTW-the rest of my family uses 2 Cingular analog/digital TDMA and GSM
phones, so I actually pay for service with 3 different companies in the
New York/New Jersey area. I travel extensively with the Verizon phone
so I always get a signal. If you want to debate on the quality of the
signal, that's different, but any signal is better than no signal, and
when you are on the highway in between major cities, your Nextel phone
could become an expensive paperweight while Verizon's phone has enough
of a signal to keep talking.

Personally, I don't care what you use as long as it works for you, BUT
if you are putting down Verizon based on a MHZ number that is incorrect,
you just don't know any better.

Excuse Me! Before posting, plese inform yourself about who is using
what frequency. Most of the Verizon network is 800 Mhz. They just have
few markets that are 1900 Mhz and those are still very well covered!!!
I've tried Nextel myself, and returned it right away. Well, something
must be wrong with Nextel...11 Million customers, compared to nearly
35 on Verizon...T-Mobile will soon even have more customers than
    Nextel!!!!

I never said Nextel has better coverage, nor did I say that i wont pick
Verizon over the MHZ issue. you are reading too much into my statments.
Even us nextel users know that Veriszon has better coveratge, but we
stick with Nextel because it works for us. I used to be a verizon
customer and my phone never worked indoors, hence why now im using
    Nextel.

Same here. No contract issuses here either. I will happily pay my
cancelation fee f i ever want to change carriesrs. I paid a fee to got off
Verizon. WHen I choose a carrier, there are alot of factors involved in my
choice...... customer service, quality of data services, price/value. For me
the sped of Nextel online is the best I have ever seen. I use my web DAILY!.
Nextel customer support is 5 times better than VZ. I love the instant
contact that idrect connect offers. And I would have to spend an addition
10-25 dollars per month to match the services with VZ I now get with Nextel
for $69 per month(this inclused online).

PS I am a Verizon Employee!

If Verizon is trying to blow Nextel out of the water with their "PTT"
they need to try harder. Their (VZW's) initial PTT plans are pretty
pathetic. Does nothing to lure Nextel customers away.

However, i'm niether a Nextel or VZW customer=)

Re: Here comes VERIZON 'direct connect'

So now on Tuesday we can actually see how well it performs, and belive
me I will have no problem walking in there with 2 NEXTEL phones and
    comparing them side by side.

I look forward to the timeframe when Verizon has to fix its bugs and
the Nextel haters have to shut the f* up for a while.

If any of you like Verizon, good. Go buy a plan.

If any of you hate Nextel, fine. Go play in some other sandbox and
stop trashing the area with your nextel hating crap. You aren't
encouraging anyone to leave Nextel, you are just making yourself out
to be an on-line jerk with no life.

As a matter of fact, if you hate Nextel so much, show us your big
accomplishment that makes Nextel's so pathetic!

Because everyone is like you and knows the Verizion Wireless website
    inside and out.

    Get a life.

I have a life. Pretty good one at that. It's just obvious to check
things out and use your brain instead of posting idiotic information and
    claims without substantiating them.

    Get an IQ.
