I believe, by law, you have a grace period to back-out if your contract if
you don't like it. You may want to investigate that so when you change
carriers, you can be sure it will cover the areas you need it, and be sure

Some of these providers are kind of quirky. For example, my friend has
Sprint and about one out of three times I call him, his phone doesn't ring,
but I hear a ringing sound on the phone thinking his phone is ringing. So
whenever he doesn't answer, I need to call again, then he answers. I ask him
and he says it only rang the one time.Very annoying. That's one thing I like
about Nextel is the caller won't hear a ring sound until my cell phone
actually starts ringing. Pretty basic stuff.

That happened to me all the time with Sprint. I'd wake up in the morning,
start to work, and have a couple of voicemails from the night before, where
my phone would never ring. Of course, the reception in my area was way
    substandard.

    Melissa,

I was with Verizon (Bell Atlantic/Bell Atlantic Nynex) for about 14 years.
Switched to AT&T. The service with AT&T was okay *BUT* the customer service
that I received was awesome! Had good experiences with the 800 people but
most especially the company store people that I worked with. We switched to
Nextel about 5 or 6 months ago purely for the D/C. Overall the phone and
D/C service is good, no better or worse than AT&T or Verizon. Like every
carrier, they have their weak areas. That said, *ALL* of our experiences
with customer service and our local rep have been awful, and yes, we do
have one of those "government/large business" rate plans/contracts. I find
their billing to be pretty awful as well.

So for us, we hold our nose and use Nextel only because of the D/C feature.

    Good luck, Scott

I'd be happy to buy your i90. I agree with you that coverage area's vary
greatly, and I have also had days when I wanted (and did) throw my phone to
the ground, but in general, I have been very happy with the service.

Re: what do you think of Nextel?

I was sort of disappointed with Nextel after the first 3 or 4 months only
because I went in with such high expectations. Everyone I talked to about
Nextel praised it and my parents claimed they'd never had a single problem
with it. I seem to not have service where some others (usually Sprint)
phones do. I drop lines and get that retarded (461 message) on my phone.
That drives me crazy. As far as customer service, I've never had any
problems. I haven't had an issue with billing so far (knock on wood). I like
my plan ... I joined when they had that 10000 Breakthrough. 1000 anytime,
5000 N/W (they upped to unlimited), and 4000 Direct Connect for 54.99 or
something like that. I just hate the 7.50/month for two-way messaging b/c
with tax that pushed my bill up to like $75/month. But I don't know anywhere
else I can get a plan like that. Overall, it's not the perfect cellular
provider and there are times when I want to take my phone and chunk it
against a wall ... but overall ... I'm pretty content w/ my Nextel. Oh yeah
.... one more thing ... the cost of their phones bring me to tears. Just
thought I'd drop that in there ... lol.
