Ready Link push-to-talk service will be competitive with Verizon
Wireless’s current offering, though would still fall short of the

I'm really tempted to post this over on alt.cellular.verizon, and ask
why they didn't take the same truthful approach. Would have given their
customers a much more realistic expectation.

Did Verizon claim to have instant connection?!?! Or did consumers just
assume it would be EXACTLY like nextel, then complain when it wasn't?!?!

they claim in their television ads that their system works faster than
Nextel's. In case you haven't seen them, they are running 2 tv ads that
show people pressing their phone button and trying to connect. The ads are
humorous, but erroneous. One is a realtor, the other is a construction
person. Since they can't connect instantly, something bad happens to them.
Then their "Can you hear me now?" guy shows up, and they say something to
the effect of for instant communication, try Verizon.

Not that I'm defending Verizon, but I think the point of the commerical was
that Verizon has better coverage then Nextel (which is true), not that its
    PTT connects faster.

If their PTT worked over their entire netwrok, that would be true. However,
it only works over their new native data network, and with that in mind,
there is a dramatic lack of coverage in areas where Verizon roams.
Coverage areas become very similar in this comparison, and Nextel actually
provides service in quite a few areas where Verizon just roams.
