Personally, I find it very hard to believe that someone is both
stupid enough and pig headed enough to not accept after being told
several times, "This number has been reassigned, please stop beeping me."

You'd be suprised. I changed to an ATT number and I had a guy call me four
times looking for Caroline. Same guy.

Probably had the number in speed dial!

Yeah, and of course, he wasn't harrassing me, he was just dumb. Two times
he asked me if this was xxx-xxxx and I told him that it was and that
Caroline must have changed her number. Oh well. This Caroline chick is
pretty popular.

Well that's just a bunch of milarky... I doubt very much
that she's enjoying it. Certainly she isn't handling it the
way I would...but just because she's handling it poorly
(in my opinion) doesn't mean that she's enjoying it.

Ah... such memories...
Story from my youth: We used to live on a semi-major road.
There was a grocery store located about five blocks from us
that had a name very similar to my family's last name... not
the same, but quite similar.
One night an elderly woman called our house. My Dad
answered. She was looking for the grocery store and my
Dad politely informed her that she had the wrong number.
Not 30 seconds after hanging up the phone, it rang again.
My mom answered this time. The same elderly woman
again. Again my mother politely informed her that she
had the wrong number... that this was the XXXXX, not
YYYYYY store.
Again, nearly immediantly after hanging up the phone rang
again. This time I answered it. Same woman. Looking
for the same thing. I, slightly more irritated, informed her
that this was a residence, not a store, that she had the
wrong number.
Hopeing against logic that she would figure out what was
happening I hung up the phone. You guessed it, nearly
immediantly the phone rang again. My dad answered:
"YYYYYY food store, may I help you?"
Same woman... "Oh good! I've been trying so hard to
get ahold of you! When do you close tonight?"
"11:00pm"
"Thank you!"
Only problem was that it was 10:15 and the store closed
at 10:00. Oh well...

Yes, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at such stupidity. Years
ago Exxon printed MY phone number as the local Credit Bureau on
rejection notices for a credit card. Of course you can't blame the
peopl that called, but the ones that called a 6 PM on Sundays should
be considered just too stupid to own a credit card.

I've been saying that one of the outcomes of NDC was that -- since it made it
A Good Idea to publish your PID, in some limited circumstances -- it would
*require* them to figure out a way to handle block-lists.
Your case is my first hit.
*HAMMER* them on this. Keep calling and complaining, do not take no for an
answer, until it comes from the president of Nextel. Document every call,
time, duration, operator name, and response, and don't ever *really* lose
your temper.
And let us know how it goes.
