After a full day of watching football, I noticed quite a few Verizon
commercials. They were all older commercials, and none of them mentioned
PTT. In addition, the PTT advertisement on their hone page was replaced
with a camera phone about three days ago. Finally, the advertising in the
Sunday paper mentions nothing about PTT (this hasn't been the case for the
last few weeks). Have they given up, or does this mean that there might
have been some merit in the lawsuit filed by Nextel? With nothing else new
to advertise, it seems like an awful lot of money has been sunk into a
product that they choose not to advertise. And all of this happening very
early in the product lifecycle can not be a good thing.

Older commercials are always re-run. Picture phones for Verizon are
still quite new and with all the 'kids' going back to school I
personally would say its a safe bet as to why PTT service and phones
have taken a back seat. More than likely because Verizon feels Camera
phones and college and high school students would like those more than
    the warmed over '2-way' services.

To explain in simple terms.....Camera Phones are the 'thing'.

Oh, a small side note i read a email that stated in the first quarter
2003 the sale of camera phones has exceeded that of normal digital
    cameras Industry wide.

    Two things:

    1. Explain "warmed over" when referring to the newest technology Verizon
    has to offer.
    2. Could the reason for the statistic you were reading about (digital vs.
phone cameras) be that digital camera sales are slowing down due to the age
of the product (many people had digital camreas before 1Q 2003)?

Re: What happened to all of the Verizon PTT advertising?

    When i said 'warmed over' i wasn't referring to Verizon's endeavor. I
was referring to the masses buying PTT or 2-way service because its the
'new' thing. Seems now that most people who want PTT/2-way service
    have it now.

Now all the rage is camera phones. Practically no one has them and most
everyone wants one. Think about it PTT service itself has been around
with Nextel for almost 10 years. Camera Phones have been around for
what? 1 Year? 2 years at MOST.

Yeah- OK. They spent all that money for a product that had a shelf life of
a month. I don't that even the most diehard Verizon posters are buying
    that.

If I don't get any more delight than listening to the backpedaling on PTT, I
will die a happy man. I'm glad you think that camera phones are the new
hoth thing- too bad the supply is going to be a little tight, and the phone
Verizon will be selling wasn't their first choice (what does that say about
    quality).

Backpeddling? Will Be? Man your lost aren't you?

Whats happening ALL over the country now? You got it kids are getting
back to school starting new grades in high school or new years in
college and what is aimed more at the youth of america? PTT or Camera
Phones? PTT is mostly aimed towards businesses and with good reason its
a quick way to keep in contact with the office or your outside sales
    force.

Picture Phones are utilized more as a for fun item....seeing that you
have Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Cingular, and many other providers that
have Camera phones which you can send or receive pictures from anyone
else with a picture messaging phone.

Two Major Companies have PTT now: Nextel and Verizon

Four Major Companies have Picture Phones: Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile,
    Cingular

Picture phones all in all are more popular than PTT phones, I'm
surprised your oblivious to that fact.

Don't forget that AT&T also offers camera phones...they are not heavily
    advertised, but are available.

That's funny, I just looked at the website and the very first thing on the
"For business" menu is.... you guessed it, push to talk!

    <Start Paste>
    For Business

    Push to Talk

    Email on the Go

    Wi-Fi High Speed
    Wireless

    BlackBerry®
    Solutions
    <End Paste>

Actually, my understanding is they are pushing the camera phones now,
something about school starting, kids gone, holidays coming up etc.
Considering I am out of school and traveling, I kind of like the email on
    the go stuff
