According to the N-Gage manual, the memory card type used by the N-Gage is the
MMC. Now, the MMC and SD (Secure Data) cards look identical, but I didn't want
to take the chance on getting the wrong format. Can I use SD cards in my N
    Gage?

I wound up buying the MMC but the selection is horrible (only one place had
any, and they were only the 64 MB ones) while I found many, MANY SD cards
    avaiable.

    Thanks...

Re: MMC and SD card question

At work (TechWorks/Officeworks, Australia) we sell a WIDE range of SD cards,
and in the last 2-3 months we have only had one line of MMC cards, which
were actually MORE expensive than the SDs .. now we only sell SDs .. a lot
of places iv been to are the same way ..

Re: MMC and SD card question

    Hi

unfortunately you cant use any SD cards in devices that only use MMC cards
like the ngage or the 6600.

the reason for this is that a MMC has 8 pins on it while the SD card has 9.
you need the hardware to use both.

you can use a MMC card in a SD capable device, but not a SD card in a MMC
    capable device.

My iPAQ 3970 can use both cards because its a SD card device, but a 6600 can
    only use MMC cards.

You will also notice that MMC cards are becoming widespread. Only a year ago
the maximum capacity was 64Mb. Now 128Mb is common as well as 256Mb with
    512Mb cards appearing.

    Hope this helps.

    Eyman

Re: MMC and SD card question

Well, not nesesscarily, just saying at work, and a lot of places in
Australia, all I can find are SD cards .. I have no idea why .. youd think,
on principle, since SD has more to it, and not many people actually use that
extra function of SD, youd think that SDs would be the rarer one .. but from
my experiece here, its not so ..

That said, there are a lot of online shops with MMC ..

Re: MMC and SD card question

SD cards wont work in nokia phones .. seems they cheaped on the interface ..
SD cards have an extra pin, that the MMC socket doesnt have, despite being
very similar. So MMC only i'm afraid ..
