So your poor and can't afford an SUV or a cell phone?

1) It's nowhere near the frequency of microwave ovens. (Frequency is
important.)
2) If you can't control your vehicle when holding a cell phone to your
ear, you can't control it much better using a hands free. It's not
the holding that causes the problem, it's the lack of attention to the
road that does it.

Or if the phone is operating around the resonant frequency of the
water molecule, which is how microwave ovens heat things.

Yes. I also started drinking and driving again after learning that
talking on the phone while driving is more dangerous and more likely
to cause an accident than driving when you've been (moderately)
drinking.
Note of course that I don't talk on the phone while driving drunk
though. I actually drive a lot more careful in that state.

Cut it out already. You can buy a cell phone from Mohammad at the

Or get one for free if you sign one of those contracts from hell.
>Jealousy breeds contempt.
Why would I have "jealousy" for a vehicle that has sub-standard
handling, breaking, crash rating and so on. Did you know I'm safer in
my GTi if I hit a wall than any SUV? As a matter of fact the only time
I'm not safer is if a cell phone driving behemoth hits me. 'Cause for
some reason SUV's don't have to have 'crush zones' like cars. And the
high bumpers that makes the highway unsafe for everyone else. The irony
is the death rate for most SUV occupants are higher than many
automobiles.

The last resort of a brainless SUV owner and cell user when the logic

Re: Cell Phone Users, SUV's and Brain Damage...No kidding
Instead of just posting the link to a slanted edit of the article, why not post a
link to the Popular Science Web Site which has a less slanted version?
See http://www.popsci.com/popsci/medicin...573349,00.html or
http://www.rfsafe.com/article490.html
The key statement is:
"Salford is the first to admit that it's too early to draw any conclusions, but
contends the unusual results deserve a closer look. "The cellphone is a marvelous
invention; it has probably saved thousands of lives," he says. "But governments and
suppliers should be supporting more autonomous research." Meanwhile, Salford
advises users to invest in hands-free headsets to reduce radiation exposure to the
brain."
You don't suppose Mr. Salford is trolling for research money - do you?
I suggest you read http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2000/600_phone.html :
From this article -
"Many experts say that no matter how near the cell phone's antenna--even if it's
right up against the skull--the six-tenths of a watt of power emitted couldn't
possibly affect human health. They're probably right, says John E. Moulder, Ph.D.,
a cancer researcher and professor of radiation oncology at the Medical College of
Wisconsin. It's true, he says, that from the physics standpoint, biological effects
from mobile phones are "somewhere between impossible and implausible."
"At the same time, Moulder supports further studies into the science of cell phone
radiation. "Some people think the power emitted by the phones is so low, it's a
silly thing to research. But I think it remains a legitimate area of study.""
And yes, I think Mr Moulder is looking for research money too.

Try this simple experiment.
1) look far left
2) look far right
3) hold cell phone to ear
4) look far left
5) look far right
Notice the huge restriction? Yes, you can still swivel
your head just as far to the cell phone side but it takes
a very concious effort to do so and is rather awkward.
People driving and talking on a cell held to the ear pretty
much cut off at least a 3rd of what they are normally
looking at/paying attention to. Then there is the natural
tendency to not drop the cell phone when both hands
and or attention to that direction are needed in short
order.
The lack of attention is a factor in both cases but the
physical restriction is a huge factor in itself.

So next, the law will be written that you can't talk to a passenger in the
car with you?
Cell phone with a hands free, is no worse than traveling down the road with
other occupants in the car gabbing away.

Occupants know when to shut up and let you drive. A cell phone doesn't.

Re: Cell Phone Users, SUV's and Brain Damage...No kidding
This is not true.
The person(s) in the car with you have the same situational
awareness that you do. For example when you are craning
to see if you can get over 2 lanes on a busy freeway or pull
out onto a very busy street the person in the car is likely to
pause in the conversation than someone on the other end of
the phone. I've noticed that my passengers often stop talking
in mid sentence/word when I get into a tight situation or it
looks like we're going to crash.
