hi all,
just wondered what is the best way of transferring everything
from my phone to a p.c and vice versa. If i bought a multi media card reader
and writer is it posssible to put my card out of the n 6600 into the reader
and drop all the files off it onto my p.c?
and at the same time would i be able to drop some midi files from my p.c
onto the correct place on the card from my p.c
and then use them as ring tones, also would pictures and video be able to
transfer in the same way?
many thanks
steve p.s i know a data cable may be around the same price£30 as a
reader/writer. But what about software?

invisible in file manager. so if the phone needs replacing or software
upgrading i will loose the game i have bought. unless there is a way round
this?

In my opinion the best way to transfer files is Bluetooth, because then you
can transfer images, sounds, texts and other files, install Java and Symbian
applications, backup your phone files (you cannot do this just with an MMC
reader) and synchronize your address book, calendar and to-do lists.
USB Bluetooth adapters for Mac OS X / Linux / Windows cost about 30--80
euros depending on the brand and model, and that you can use with any mobile
device that supports Bluetooth, and you don't have to switch off your phone
like you have to do when dealing with memory cards.
> But what about software?
Nokia PC Suite for the 6600 allows all this.

As already mentioned, I'd suggest bluetooth .. your phone already has this
wireless capability, and it lets you do everything, both with PCSuite, your
bluetooth software itself (file transfer) and 3rd party apps such as MobiMB,
and LogoManager II for Symbian ..
If you have other uses for a MMC card reader, and theyr not that expensive,
then it might be a worthwhile investment, just for the extra option. Using
the MMC card to install stuff is slow tho, as you have to turn off the phone
each time you take out the MMC, then reboot it when you put it back in ..

Just so you know, the nokia 6600 can't actually have a data cable, there is
no connector port for it .. you MUST use wireless or the MMC card on this
phone .. (or IR)

Get the app called FExplorer.sis for your phone .. lets you see a LOT more
than the nokia explorer, and move them just the same .. you'd have to be
sure you got all its files, and moved them all to the MMC to make sure itd
actually run from its new home .. but its doable .. Didnt you get the option
when you installed it to install to MMC or phone? I'd suggest always
installing to the MMC ..
Also, between the websites that host litterally thousands of Symbian and
Java apps/games (search here in groups.google.com to find sites), and a
transfer method (any of the above mentioned), you dont need to pay for
either ringtones, or apps/games ..

Re: 6600 question
I would suggest you use PCfilemanager. It will do everything you are
mentionning and if using bluetooth connection is quite fast. There is a demo
version available on www.epocware.com.
And I think the program will cost you less than a MMC reader (that is if you
won't use the reader for any other purpose).
