I'm wondering if updating the firmware on my 6310 (not 6310i) to the latest
version will resolve some of the Bluetooth connection issues currently
experienced with version 4.20 firmware. I believe the latest firmware
version for the 6310 is now up to 5.XX
Also, is it possible to update the firmware myself, with the appropriate
cable? Is other words is the software and firmware for updating the phone
freely available for download or is it something I have to pay for?
Thanks in advanced.

Yes, that should help, there were many bluetooth fixes:

The hardware required is very expensive. However, your phone is now out of
warranty, so software updates are not free. Enquire at your local nokia
service centre.

Latest version is v5.01

Firmware updating is free from an NSC if the phone is under warranty. If
it's no longer under warranty, you can either pay someone to do the work, or
do it yourself. IF you want to go the DIY route, and don't mind a very good
chance of borking the phone, you could use a "China" flasher which cost
about £35 UKP. If you want to do the job right, use either Twister
(www.gsm-solutions.co.uk), Griffin or Prodigy - but all of these will set
you back over £200 UKP.
