Hi folks, hope you can advise - I have a PC with XP Pro - as delivered,
it had a network connection defeined called 1394 connection (which I am
given to understand is the IR connection).

    I have a Nokia 7210.

I wish to establish a connection between the phone and the pc but am
unaware of what the steps are to achieving this.

I have downloaded the Nokia PC Suite and installed that.

I have also gone into the phone and selected Connectivity -> Infrared
and that has set the IR symbol flashing on the phone (although this
stops flasihing shortly thereafter). Then I have lined up the top of the
phone to point straight at the ir port on the pc

Can anyone help me with what I shoud do next to establish a connection?

My aim is to get GPRS connections working but basic connectivity is an
    important first step!

PS I have various icons in the XP tray such as Nokia PC Sync which when
    hovered over says 'not connected'

    Thanks for all advice!

Bugger, got muddled up. OK so what are the first steps to establishing
an ir link between pc and phone?

    Hi,

The 1394 connection is not IR, it is Firewire.

    Regards,

    Simon.

So what I thought was an irda port on my PC actually isn't? I guess I
need to check the specs or obviously I am missing something more
    obvious.

    Thanks anyway.

does it look like an IR port then? i've had trouble with GPRS on my g/f's
laptop. Disconnects after about 4 mins of connection.

I'd be grateful for even just 4 mins!
