I have had a Nokia mobile with a mono screen for a long time. I
would like to stick with Nokia and get a colour screen.

I want a straightforward phone (nothing too fancy) like a 6100 or
7250i or something like that. No need for games. Camera might be
useful but I don't really need it.

Are Nokia colour screens reckoned to be poorer than the
competition? Compared to phones like the SonyEricsson T610 or
    Sagem MyX-7?

I kind of got the feeling that Nokia colour screens have less
resolution, or pooerer colours, or are hard to see in sunlight, or
    whatever.

    Is this true?

Should I consider another brand if good visibility is important to
    me?

Nokia screens are about 4000 colours wheras many competitors are 16000.

However, my 6820 (which is 4000 colours) looks much clearer than my
girlfriends Panaasonix x60 which is many thousand colours better.

Nokia colour screens are easier to see than SE T610 screen in bright
    daylight.

For best visibility go for a mono screen..hehehe

ALL color screens are harder to see in the sunlight.

That being said, I like the Nokia offerings. With the Ericsson T68 I had, the
display was virtually impossible to see during the daylight outside. I don't
have that problem with the Nokia's. I can see what is necessary inless there is
no way to shade the screen by turninga bit away from the sun.

    I have 3560's, 3595's a 6200, and a 6820 and all seem to work well enough in
    the sun.

my 6220 is 4k colours, sometimes hard to see the screen. Heard of a new
screen technology, stick with that, though i've heard its more £££.

The 6600 has 16 bit (65535) color. It's also easily the brightest
    mobile display I've ever seen.

Are the 6100 and 7250i representative of Nokia colour screens? Or
are they better or worse than most?

I think the Nokia 6100 is as hard to see as the SE T610 I once had.

Or is my memory playing tricks?

Well I've had a 7250i for a week (!). Really impressed with the screen, but
then this is my first colour screen phone. have seen the screen on the
3510i and mine is miles better.

Having compared more than just a few, I'd say that on balance Nokia seem to
get it better than the competition - though there is one of those PDA
thingies which can also (almost ?) work as a phone which has variable
    brightness.
I was quite happy with my 7650 untill I upgraded to a 6600 a few months ago.
It looks like it is the same physical screen, but controlled by better
software. I found it a little difficult to read in some bright situations
untill I started playing around with the colour scheme options - now there's
no problem at all. In bright sunshine it helps to shield the screen with
your hand when viewing photos, but otherwise I can't fault the display.
My wife uses a 7250 and the screen on that doesn't look as good as the 7650
or the 6600, but its not too bad really.
    Kevin.

    Go for a T630... it's virtually identical to the T610 in features, there's a
few more menu options and better software compression for the camera etc,
but the main difference is the screen is much improved, it now uses a TFT
    screen!

The colour screen on my 6600 is wonderful.
