    Hi,

I've got a nice new Nokia 6230 (running V03.14) and an MSI USB bluetooth dongle. Using this dongle, I've managed to
get Win98SE talking to my phone and Obex transfers going both ways. It works okay, apart from the fact that it is
_really_ slow (<50kbps). Has anyone else experienced such issues, or is this "normal" ? Any ideas on how
to improve the connection speed, without resorting to a cable ?

    Ta,
    SB

Are you sure that you're not reading kiloBYTES as kiloBITS?

I get around 25-30 kBYTES per second transfer over bluetooth
between the PC and phone and reckon it's reasonably fast given that
the technology is basically a souped up version of the serial cable.

Nope, definately bits, not bytes. It's seriously slow. Perhaps the fact that I have DECT phones and an 802.11b
wireless network running as well might not help ?

Oh, and it's a desktop machine, so I dont have an IR port, unless I buy _another_ dongle. Anyway, I understood that
was quite slow as well ?

What's the fastest speed that you could get with a PC and a 6230 ?

    115,200kpbs?

IIRC WiFi operates on the same frequency as bluetooth and can
definitely cause intereference. I think DECT should be on a seperate,
    licensed frequency though.

As a quick test I just copied a 1.5 meg AAC off of the memory card
in the phone to my PC desktop and the bluetooth software reported an
FTP rate of about 45KB per second and it copied across in well under a
    minute.

With a simple dongle you should be able to reach an easy 40 kBps,
which means over 320 kbps should be easely possible.

    Good luck!

Err.. in my experience irDA is always significantly slower than BT and
    requires a visual contact.

I'd never go back to it having used to BT.
