    Is it Legal to monitor Broadcast Cell Messages?

    I live in Queensland Australia and want to monitor the signal strength
    of the towers as i drive around in my car AKA cheep GPS unit.

    Well considering your phone has the capabilities to monitor cell broadcasts
    and they are actually transmitted for your phone to receive I would say you
    can.

    As for using them for a cheap GPS system, good luck as I don't know how you
    are going to do that as a site name isn't going give you much info to go by.

    In the USA it is illegal.

    Cellular and GPS are not the same and your question doesn't really make sense
    unless you want to locate the towers and record their coordinates.

    Typically you can look out across the horizon and see towers. Then drive to
    them and record the Coordinates.

    thank you, and yes thats exactly what i had in mind.

    Does any one know about legality in Australia?
