Has anyone any experience of how having BT always turned on on the 6820
    degraded battery life?

I have a BT headset which I use infrequently as I also have a full car kit.
I am findin git easier to leave BT turned on on the phone and turning the
headset on and off as required.

Will this sohorten my phones battery life between charges or is the
bluetooth effectively off unless initiated by the headset?

I've got a 6310i, and I find leaving the BT turned on makes no noticeable
    difference to the battery life.

AFAICT the BT function is only receiving unless it is communication with
another BT device, like your BT headset.

One thing you can do, is to turn the 'Bluetooth Discoverable' function
OFF. Your BT headset will still work and connect OK, but it stops
unnecessary comms with other BT devices which may be in the area.
Plus it stops any possibility of been *Bluejacked* .
