I have recently changed my service provider and cell no - and obtained
a new instrument.
Upto now I have on my 6110 - if my phone is switched off - a message
asking callers to leave a voice message after they hear my message
("Sorry, not able to take your call etc etc)
I wish to change what callers hear - my 6110 will be switched off
permanently until the old service provider's contract expires at the
end of this month- to a message telling them "Thanks for calling
Stan - My new cell number is xxxxxx...", and NOT giving callers the
option of leaving a voice message.
How do I make those changes on my 6110?
Thanks in advance.

The message is a feature of the voicemail service operated by your
service provider. To change the message you will need to call your VM
service and record your own greeting; your service provider will be
able to advise you what number to call.
I'm not aware that you can stop callers leaving voicemail once they've
been diverted to VM so you'll need to add something to the message
advising callers not to.

He may be able to. My Vodafone Australia allows you to leave an
'extended away' message, and with it you can decide whether ya want
calllers to leave messages.
But, as you replied, any or all of these features are provider
specific.

Depends on the network/service provider. On Orange (UK) you can set what
is called an extended absence greeting, this is designed to allow you to
change the message if you're going to be away for a few days/weeks or
whatever, without altering your main greeting.
There is an option there to disallow leaving messages on voicemail, but I
can't remember exactly what it is, it's been a while since I used it.
However if your network has this option customer services will tell you.
BTW this is a network feature not a handset feature so linking the post to
a 6110 or any other specific phone is misleading.
