    Hi all,

My second day of attempting to get my 6600 to talk via bluetooth to PC suite
    dawns...

Have MSI USB adaptor, on XP SP2 (yes, I know), PC Suite is 1.0.0 and phone
firmware is 4.09.1 (as I recall). My results so far are mixed. I can pair
the phone with the PC, and send a file from PC to phone via BT software
(seems to initiate an FTP connection?), but canot send from phone to PC. Not
particularly worried about the latter yet, as I'm still trying to overcome
the problems created by XP SP2 on my machine. I thought maybe my firewall
(Norton) was getting in the way, but I disabled it, but still can't send
from phone to PC. My serial connection attempts from PC to phone don't last
long. I know the phone disconnected message is unimportant, so I won't worry
about that either for the moment. The BT tray icon does go green for a bit,
and eventually drops back to white, if you get my drift. Anyhow, my plan is
to download the latest PC suite, along with the Nokia registry cleaner, and
then get the mRouter beta 3 (site is unavailable at the moment?). I will
then launch a serious deinstall/reinstall exercise.

    My current software settings are:

    Local Services - COM5
    Client Applications - COM4
    Serial Port shortcut - COM4
    mRouter - COM4 & COM5

    Device manager shows BT ports COM3, COM4 & COM5

My queries relate to the port settings on the BT software and mRouter:

o As far as I can tell, it is important to have the mRouter 'Connection
Properties' BT port matching the 'Local Services' BT port in the 'Bluetooth
Configuration' of the BT software. Is this the case?
o Is the 'Client Application' BT port of any relevence, or should I leave as
    is?
o Is the Serial Port assigned port (ie in the shortcut) of any relevence (ie
does it have to match the Client Application port?), or should I leave as
    is?

Thanks in advance. Apologies for being a bit garbled, but I only get so much
time when the kids need taking care of!

    Regards,

    K

Hi, thanks for the advice. I tried all this, but no go. I then went to work
this morning, and installed everything on my Win 2000 machine there.
Strangely, it works just fine, but didn't like mRouter 3.

So, now knowing how it's meant to work, I came home and did the whole lot
again on my home PC. I uninstalled mRouter 3, PC Suite and the MSI BT
software. I then ran the Nokia registry cleaner. Installed everything again,
except for mRouter 3 (which doesn't seem to get anywhere in terms of
initialising). Paired phone to PC, retrieved services from the phone,
selecting serial port on the phone. I checked that the Local Services port
matched the mRouter port, and launched a quick connect from the BT tray
icon. Phone asks whether to allow the connect, which I do. PC says port is
disconnected by remote device. Wait a few seconds and the connection comes
up (ie the BT tray icon goes green), and a dialog pops up on the PC saying
the phone wants to connect. I allow the phone to connect, and the tray icon
stays green. I check the serial port for the computer, and the status shows
it is connected and has a good signal. However mRouter does not pick up the
connection at all. After a few minutes the connection drops, probably out of
boredom! - I can play around with the port settings, but I don't think it's
the basic BT settings, more like the Nokia side of things and XP SP2. Any
    ideas?

    Thanks,

    K

    Re: Bluetooth PC Suite Queries

Ah, progress is being made, although somewhat slowly. For no apparent reason
I can determine, or take credit for, mRouter now sees my serial port
connection. Problem is it displays my 6600 phone as an unknown device...

    Sigh...

    Re: Bluetooth PC Suite Queries

Just a note for anyone else interested in getting an MSI USB BT adaptor
(BToes) working with XP SP2 and Nokia PC Suite and a Nokia 6600...

    1. Ensure *no* BT software or PC Suite is installed. If it is, deinstall it,
and use the registry cleaner from www.nokia.com to tidy up orphaned PC Suite
    registry entries.

    2. Download the XP *SP2* driver for BToes from www.msi.com.tw and install
according to the instructions in the associated PDF file. Once this is done
you are using native XP SP2 BT connectivity, and do *not* need to install
    any other MSI BT software.

    3. Using the tray icon from the XP BT software install above, make the PC
    'discoverable'.

    4. From the phone, scan for BT devices and pair with the PC, providing the
relevent password (passkey according to XP terminology). - One day I'll find
out why my 6600 only seems keen on holding onto a single paired entry at a
    time.

5 Using the BT tray icon, search for services the phone can provide and
allow the XP software to install the Serial Port connectivity..

    6. Install PC Suite and allow it to reboot upon completion of install. Do
not bother firing up PC Suite at this point, or configuring the mRouter
    program that comes with it.

    7. Download the mRouter 3 beta from www.intuwave.com/index.php?page=105 and
    install.

    8. After reboot, allow the mRouter 3 wizard to use native XP BT connectivity
    to do all the configuring.

    9. Invoke PC Suite and away you go.

Jeez, several days of torture and it's finally working for me on both Win XP
SP2 and Win 2000 SP4. - Shame I've just ordered a TDK USB BT adaptor in case
I was never going to get the MSI one working! Anyhow, hope the above is of
    use to someone...
