Wondering if anyone can help me with a small problem I'm having with my
    3300?

I'm using a couple of MP3's as ringtones and text message alert tones. Most
of the time there's no problem, but every now and again when someone rings I
get a message on the phone's screen which says "File or memory card
    corrupt".

When this happens the phone neither rings (obviously) nor vibrates to notify
    me of the incoming call.

Anyone know what might be causing this problem?

For the record, I'm using a non-Nokia, 256Mb MMC in the phone - which the
vendor assures me is 100% compatible with the 3300. Also, I encoded the
    MP3's myself (128kbps, VBR) so I know they're OK.

    TIA.

I suppose that when your phone vibrates due to someone calling, the memory
card disconnects from the phone and a mem-corrupt message will be displayed.
I'd say try turning the vibration function off.

Oh, my 3300 has firmware version "4.05" installed in case it makes a
    difference.

    Hmm, I wonder...?

Whilst the memory card itself appears to be firmly seated, I have noticed
that each and every time I take the back off the phone the BATTERY pops
    straight out.

Maybe when the phone vibrates it occasionally causes a brief power
interruption which is causing this? Or am I clutching at straws?

Back to the memory card....I've re-installed the original Nokia 64Mb memory
card, so far no problems (though I haven't received enough calls yet for it
to be a fair test). The Nokia MMC is a tighter fit than the 256Mb card I've
    been using as a replacement.

    Anyone else had this problem?

If you don't remove your memory card often, maybe you could stick a strip of
tape across to hold the MMC in place...?

    Hi Chris,

No, no. The 256Mb MMC is not at all "loose" in the socket - in fact it is a
near perfect fit, it doesn't move around at all when locked in place.

The reason I mentioned this is because when I press the "release" tab to
remove the card, the original Nokia MMC stays down firmly in the socket and
needs to be pried up in order to remove it; whereas the 256Mb card springs
up easily, the way it should.

I only wish this was the problem, because, as you say, it can easily be
    rectified.

I'm wondering what the maximum officially supported MMC capacity is for the
3300? 128Mb? Should I format the card in the phone, or using the card
reader/writer I have attached to my PC?

When I got the card I formatted it in the phone, which seemed to be quite
    happy with it.
