    Here's a weird one.

I was trying to turn on the PIN code request on a Nokia
    3205 with AT&T Wireless SIM.

So the phone asked for the existing PIN. Didn't work.

Funny, I thought. I was pretty sure I typed it in correctly.
So I tried it again. Now the phone angrily let me know
that the card was blocked and I needed the PUK code.

    I thought I would've had more tries.

So I called AT&T Wireless, the guy said "No probelm, I'll
give a PUK code." So he gave it to me. Didn't work.

    Tried it again, didn't work.

    Checked the numbers, didn't work.

He transferred me over to someone else. We went through
the whole list, checked SIM card numbers, everything. Tried
even the PUK2 code, when it was asking for PUK. Nothing.

I was hinting, that the problem was with the card, or the
code. Either one must be wrong. But she suggested that I just
try and try again, and tomorrow buy a new card if it doesn't work.

Not happy with this solution, I took the card out and put it
into another phone, a Nokia 3595. The PUK was accepted right
    away.

What a relief! I put in a new PIN code and made a quick call
    to see everything was working.

So I took the SIM card out of the 3595 and put it back in the
3205. Fired it up. Typed in the PIN code. "Emergency calls only".

WTF? I thought the phone had gotten locked now. Tried it once
    more. "Emergency calls only".

After a third try I realized that this seems like I'm entering
the wrong PIN code in. But I was sure I wasn't.

So, I took the card out, put it back in the 3595. The PIN code
was good after all. Everything worked.

So maybe the phone was defective? I put in another SIM card to
the 3205. Asks for a PIN code, and accepts it. Works fine.

Why is it, that with this particular combination, 3205 and
that particular SIM card, neither PIN nor PUK numbers are
accepted? How's that possible? I just can't understand it.

So I turned off the PIN code request on that particular card.
Works fine, even with the 3205.

    3205 is CDMA...

You're pressing the CALL button, not the OK button.

How the heck are you getting a SIM card to work in a CDMA phone?

I understand the recent Nokia CDMA phones had a SIM slot, but was under the
impression it didn't actually do anything...

Whoops, you're right, the phone is 3200. Looked at the
wrong one on the Nokia web site. But the question still
    stands.

This sounds like a logical thing that would cause it. But since
I would've accidentally pressed the call button instead of
OK, I can't believe I would've done it so many times, and
then got it right, right after changing the other SIM.

But of course, I can't be sure of myself now, and I don't
have to phone here, so I can't test right away.

With the button layout on those things, an easy problem.
But the only time I've ever come across "Emergency calls only" is when I've
pressed the call button instead of the OK button when entering the PIN.
